I too have that fantasy, but since Google is basically an advertising company, I doubt they really want to further develop a product that allows users to record and store content and, my favorite feature, cut out commercials. So whatever comes out of Google won't be your grandfather's SageTV.

In any event, your plugins (I think I'm using all of them) have enhanced everyone's Sage experience and I encourage everyone who hasn't already done so, to install the EPG plugin before the plug gets pulled by year's end.

Thanks from me as well, Slugger. I don't happen to use many plugins, but I have been following the Sage forums for several years and I have no doubt that you enhanced the experiences of many of us, both with your code and your responses to general inquiries. I know I learned a lot. So, thanks, again.

Just saw the news as I don't frequent the forums as much anymore. I wanted to say thank you Slugger for all that you have done over the years in support of the Sage platform. I know your existing plugins will continue to help the Sage community going forward.

It's free licenses for everyone!

A new update to the sagetv-addons license server will be available in the plugin repository shortly (v1.3.1). This update modifies the license server to simply validate all license requests from any of my plugins as licensed. Effectively, this grants a life time license to everyone.

Two reasons this is being done:

First, I'm getting ready to move and it's time to start packing up the office so the server hosting the PayPal payment processor/license file generator app needs to be taken offline. Either way it was going to have to be offline for at least a week, maybe longer. I'd rather be able to just pack it up now and not have to scramble if someone needed a license regenerated.

Second, the original reason for this licensing way back when was to offset expenses associated with my development of this project. When my level of development effort dropped due to Google's takeover, I simply made the license a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. Well, given that my level of dev effort has only continued to drop over the last year and I expect it to drop off even more, I've just decided to end the licensing altogether. New users looking for a license are now instead encouraged to make a donation directly to the Canadian Cancer Society (yes, believe it or not, I tend to get about 1 new license purchase per month).

So effective immediately, the PayPal processor/license generator app has been taken offline. The PayPal button to purchase licenses has been deleted at PayPal and will no longer accept payments. Once I get no feedback with problems concerning the updated plugin, I will destroy my purchase database of previous donators/purchasers. The db will probably be destroyed shortly after I bring the server back online at my new house.

Again, thanks to all those who have donated over the years! Your support is appreciated.

Slugger, Thanks for all the work on the sjq stuff! And many thanks for all the patient help troubleshooting my scripts and in some cases writing most of them for me!

Regarding the new license setup, what do us previously licensed people have to do if anything to keep the magic happening?

If you have a current license file, you don't have to do anything. Everything will continue to work. What you could/should do is upgrade the sagetv-addons license server plugin and move your license file & rename it so it can't possibly be recognized by anything. After doing that and restarting Sage, all your plugins should still be recognized as licensed. If so, then that's it, you're good to go. If not, I need to fix something in the update.

Note: I butchered v1.3.0 of this plugin so v1.3.1 is now in the repository. This is the version that everyone should be upgrading to.

I'm getting an error trying to update..
It says failed. It can't download the zip file?

Edit.. Never mind.. Maybe has something to do with the message above...

Edit2: All good now... Must have tried to update while Slugger was changing things..

Very cool. Is there a list stating the differences in SJQ3 vs SJQ4? I've been using 3 for years without any issue and am nervous about an upgrade.

Thanks once again for all you've contributed, including the best app ever made for SageTV (SRE, of course, is absolutely
brilliant).

I've been using SageTV for a few years and appreciate all the work on the add-ons. Most problems I can figure out (by reading these forums, what a help they have been ) or an update gets posted. But in this case, the sagetv-addons License Server was updated to 1.3.1 and I installed it on 8/19/13. Ever since then, I get TWO alerts from SageAlert. Everything else works just fine, and I've made no other changes, I just get 2 alerts for everything.

No comments or replies??

I find it hard to believe that nobody else is having the same problem.

Slugger, would you please let me know you saw this?

Thank you
Russ
