Why won't my SageTV client let the PC go to sleep?

I'm using W7 x64 with a USB-UIRT. I'm having a heck of a time getting the PC to go to sleep. Sage is set to go to screensaver after 10 minutes. The PC is set to sleep after 1 hr. Powercfg -requests tells me that SageTVClient.exe is keeping the PC awake for some reason.

Code:
DISPLAY:
[PROCESS] \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Program Files (x86)\SageTV\SageTV\SageTVClient.exe

SYSTEM:
[DRIVER] \FileSystem\srvnet
An active remote client has recently sent requests to this machine.
[PROCESS] \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Program Files (x86)\SageTV\SageTV\SageTVClient.exe

AWAYMODE:
None.
The srvnet driver has been added to the requestsoverride but I'm sure if I was to add the Sage client the PC could go to sleep in the middle of a movie. The kicker to this is that it worked when the PC was first setup.

I did an experiment yesterday. I set the sleep time to 1 minute and started killing processes. Turning off the JAVA update check would allow the PC to go to sleep. I changed the sleep time back to 2 hrs and this morning I found it still on

Since nobody else has chimed in yet, I toss in my 2 cents. I just built a spare server that hooks to the TV (no clients) and could not get it to sleep (Dual core intel, Win 7 64bit). Long story short, I disabled all sleep functions and installed "Switch Off" by Airytec (free for non commercial use). This progee lets you fine tune the sleep parameters a bit better than Windows built in sleep mode, as you can set cpu percentage and time in that percentage to qualify going to sleep. I set mine to 8 min at 5% cpu. That seems to be the sweet spot for this setup. The PC wakes up on its own, records a show, then drifts off back to sleep when its done. YMMV. You'll have to experiment to find your setting.

Hope that helps,

Bobby

Sage has a special debug mode,so you can check the logs and see if Sage is telling the system to stay awake. I don't recall the option and am at the wrong computer to check. Basically, Sage has 3 modes: OK, for system to sleep, Keep the system up (sage is recording, etc), Keep the display on (watching a show). My guess is that you have the client active like you are using it or you have some type of preview window open, so sage thinks you are watching. Is the display going down? I will try to find the option when I get a chance.

The Screen Saver settings in sage have nothing to do with going to sleep. You need to set your sleep time in Detailed Setup -> Customize -> Power Management Settings. That said, I think there is a bug of sorts where clients are involved, and I'm thinking those settings in the UI always set the server's Idle timeout. You may have to edit the sageclient.properties file directly (with the client completely closed of course) to set your power_management_idle_timeout setting for the client.

The screen saver kicks in as expected. Last night before bed I pulled the network cable and sure enough it was asleep in the morning. I don't think WHS is keeping it awake since the other PC's in the house sleep OK. Tonight I'm going to close the client and leave the PC on to see what happens.

Your network adapter is probably set to wake on directed packets rather than strictly a magic packet. I had that problem on one of my computers when I was trying to get it to sleep.

I found a setting in the power management tab to only wake on magic packets. Unfortunately, setting it did not work. I then turned off the whole 'allow windows to manage power settings on the adapter' and now it goes to sleep somewhat reliably. Of course this leads into the next problem. The network adapter completely disappears after waking the PC. The only way to get it back is to physically unplug the power. This seems like a mobo/firmware issue to me.
