New Life in my Sagetv setup

Last year I decommissioned my sage setup for Directv whole home solution which was a disappointment for me, but made the wife happy. I did re-install sage a few months later in a one room installation, but could not justify running a computer for sage that was barely used. Well to make a long story short, I just completed installing sage on my unraid server on a virtualized windows 7 using virtualbox. With placeshifter, and openvpn, it is a great slingbox solution. Directv wants ~$179 dollars for a device capable of slinging live tv.

Specs of Unraid Server
Phenom Triple core 2.21 GHZ
4Gig Ram
10 TB storage

Virtualized Sagetv
Windows 7 Pro
Phenom Triple core 2.21 GHZ all cores assigned to VM
1.5 Gig Ram
Hauppauge Hd PVR
Serial tuning
Silicondust dual tuner

Virtualbox is installed on the unraid server ( bare metal). There is a virtualbox plugin available now, along with Phpvirtualbox (used to manage the virtual machine.

Interesting, thanks. I've never seen that plugin, but I suppose I've never looked around the UNraid plugins too much.

Is your goal live tv while away from the home or are you trying to get sage recordings, movies, and other local content while away from home?

Reason I ask is plex has all of this built in, and also has an unraid server build. Makes things quite easy to deal with.

I run Plex on my unraid server, the goal was to get livetv away from home without exposing a lot of open ports to the internet. This is a hobby. My ultimate goal is to figure out how to make a 2013 sony bravia smart tv play my ripped movies. It has to be the dumbest smart tv ever made. I have tried serviio, sony homestream (serviio) cpu intensive in VM. I need a good dlna solution compatible with sony, without 100 percent utilization when its in operation.

Solved problem with rips to sony bravia tv and dvd rips, windows 7 media player dlna server works perfectly with the bravia.
