No sound issue was related to the audio being incorrectly flagged as AAC. Happens once in a blue moon on my colossus.

Are you sure that was the issue with the HDPVR 2? I have Directv and about 40% of the channels had this no sound issue.

No Audio Issue

I have been struggling with an HDPVR2 for some time in order to get recordings from a new cable box. I gave up for a time because it would not produce predictable audio and Hauppauge as usual did not care - because SageTV is obsolete.
I switched to using the analog input on an old WinTV card - which worked albeit in SD.
Now Hauppauge have published new drivers for the HDPVR2 - so I went back to trying it. Worked like a charm for a couple of weeks. Then some system change (can't track down what - possibly just a Windows update) and bang - audio has gone again. Video is great - just very quiet.
The SageTV recordings contain an audio stream - just no sound on it. Even playing the files with VLC or WMP produces silence, so the problem is with the capture settings.
Irritatingly the HDPVR2 does work with the Hauppauge Capture utility. It works with audio input via RCA or S/PDIF optical (both are connected). I can select either input on the hauppauge capture utility and they work fine.
SageTV however stubbornly sees no audio.
I have tried reboots, reinstalling the drivers etc - still SageTV is deaf.
The best I got out of Hauppauge was the comment that "SageTV messes with the crossbar settings" but I have no idea what that means or if I can do anything about it. Somehow it looks like SageTV is sending setup data to the HDPVR2 that is wrong - but I have no idea what tells SageTV what to send. Is it in the PROPERTIES file or the registry? Is there any developer documentation that sheds light on this?
Has anyone had any joy (or suggestions) with other ways of getting SageTV to drive the HDPVR2? It seems that the kit is fine but the interface with SageTV is somewhat flakey.

Googling the crossbar term, it seems that it is something in Windows that routes an audio or video input on a capture card to a specific output. If I had to guess, they are saying that Sage is choosing the wrong audio input to record from. Maybe it has something to do with the HDPVR 2 having 3 audio inputs, but only two showing up in the Sage tuner configuration?

The crossbar has to do with how it setup the video and audio pin for recording.
