Here is the next version. I cleaned up a lot of things. The bug preventing the videos from playing on some HD300's is not fixed. I'll look at that next. (The problem is caused by Windows UAC.)

Changelog:

- Added menu animations.
- Cleaned up right side of the menu.
- Added scroll bar.
- Added detailed information for Videos.
- Added basic options menu for Videos.
- Improved search for Videos.
- Added search channels by keyword.
- Added dependencies for gson, jackson-core.
- Added dependency for JVM 1.6 or higher.

Thanks, just tried the latest version.

Looks like you still have youtube_download_before_playing defaulting to false.

I've installed the most recent version of this plugin (the one released yesterday) and have a few requests/suggestions. I know this is still alpha/beta, and I'm sure you have plenty of other things you're taking care of, so no pressure.
  1. Clicking the back arrow (with the mouse) takes you back to the SageTV Home screen, not the previous screen. The back button on the remote works fine.
  2. Can you add the ability to select the SageTV "Info" option (CTRL-I) on search results? The reason behind this is I'm using some non-SageTV remotes which don't have favorite buttons. With an info option that brought up a menu to add/remove favorites I won't need a SageTV-brand remote to access that (and potentially other) feature.
  3. Can you add the ability to sort the videos returned by a default attribute (specifically pubDate)? Videos returned for channels appear to be randomly returned (i.e. the first one will be from 2005, the next from 2014 the next from 2009, etc.). Additionally, either the API or your plugin seems to limit the results to 500 - can you make this result the 500 most recent results?
  4. Do you have any plans to add playlists as Favorites?

Great work onthis!

Can you add a "Add Favorite Channel" choice to the video options menu (or the video info menu) so that users can easily save a channel to their favorites from any video search results?

Great feedback, thank you.

1. I never tried that. I will fix it.

2. I'm not familiar with what you are referring to but will look at it. If you don't have a sage remote you can click on the video and a menu comes up. One of the options there is to add/remove favorite. Is that not working?

3. Already done for the next version. The current method is what YouTube refers to as "by relevancy". I'm not sure what that means - I think it's by view count but I'm not sure.

4. Yes, that's already on the to do list. Just started working on it last night.

Already on the to do list.

Anything else you might like to see?

Right now the plugin is being tested by the most prolific YouTube users I know - my kids. They have lots of suggestions

This does work to add a favorite video, but the same thing does not appear to work for a channel. When selecting the channel, it simply lists videos from the channel. I have to either use a SageTV remote (with a "Favorite" button) or a keyboard to hit CTRL-K to add the channel as a favorite.

Looking forward to the next release!

Version 0.03 in the manifest attached:

- Fixed bug preventing videos from playing on Windows OS with UAC enabled.
- Moved scroll bar to left side of the pane.
- Added options menu. (Use this to change the order channels and videos are displayed.)
- Videos now download to same temp directory as used by the default STV.

Now I understand. That's on the to do list already. Right now only the Videos have a basic options menu.

Just out of curiosity, minus the login requirement, how much does this plugin differ from a plugin that would also provide a Netflix interface?

To installl updated versions of the plugin over a previous install, do we follow all the same steps as listed at the beginning of this thread or do we need to first to delete the previous version from the Sage directory?

Edit:
Never mind... when I extracted the file into the Sage directory, Sage gave me the "Updates available" under the system messages menu.

The steps at the beginning of this thread were only needed because the plugin was very green and lacked even the most basic setup options. It's a little more mature now; no need to manually edit anything.

Thanks tmiranda,
The hd300s are now working. The movie trailer plugin authored by koelec is still trying to use the old built in YouTube which returns no results. The movie trailer plugin just adds a movie trailers clips button to the Video file options dialog then when you press it it adds the movie name to the search string and returns results. This is very useful for movies in the guide as well as downloaded movies. Koelec hasn't been seen or heard from since 2013 so I don't think he will be updating his plugin. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I've attempted to install this plugin, but must be misunderstanding the directions. When I unzip the file, there is one .xml file. Is that supposed to be placed in the top-level SageTV folder (i.e. Program Files x86/SageTV)? I did this and then opened SageTV and looked in the setup - plugins menu, and I don't see the YouTube plugin under UI Mod or All sections.

What am I missing?

It needs to be in SageTV's program folder location, normally C:\Program Files (x86)\SageTV\SageTV. This file, SageTVPluginsDev.xml will sit next to the SageTVPlugins.xml file that is downloaded periodically from the SageTV web server, and provide additional plugin(s) to sage. Normally, this only used during testing, and then the plugin will be submitted to the main repository, where it will show up in the main (non-dev) xml file.

Follow Fuzzy's instructions and you should be good to go. Post here if you can't get it to work.

After you install it bring up the options menu to configure the sort order.

I will probably do one or two more "private" releases in this forum and then make it available in the normal way.

I'm in the process of adding in Playlist support. That is the last piece of core functionality needed by the plugin.

This works great, however, can you tell me which dir this is, exactly? And, I imagine we'd want to delete these after downloading and watching - would we do that manually?
thanks
