Opens source clients???

Will there be any new hardware clients in the open source world?

Or perhaps an app for Roku/amazon fire??

That would make life a LOT easier!

Personally I am waiting for developers to create the open source backend before contemplating doing anything with a client. It's probably already too late to gain the trust of sufficient existing users for the start of the fall season.

Or to be more direct, the open source will include the server AND client (at least assuming it will), just like the server (Windows only?) software does now. Thus there will be whatever you want to make (as stanger89 pointed out).

The power of open source, ain't it great?!!!

Hope this helps,
RedR

PS- Not to hijack the thread but I also assume you could roll in what kodi has for HDHR Live and Recording into something SageTV open source could use/include (yes with much coding and work).

Yes, everything but the proprietary/licensed components is going to be open sourced. That's basically just the licensing code and the bundled audio/video decoders. Open Source Sage will include the server (Windows/Mac/Linux), Client (Windows), Placeshifter (Windows/Mac/Linux), and the "SageTV" parts of the extender (but not, I assume the Sigma SDK/drivers, etc, not exactly sure how that will work).

Day one, it will basically just be like what we have now, but will not require a key to use. Anything beyond that is up to the community. Will there be new clients? Well that's all up to someone to make, so I have no idea.

What exactly is that? Sage can already use the HDHR natively what would this do?

Thanks for the replies. As for there being 'whatever i want to make', I'm completely incapable of making anything, so I was more asking what the capable among us were planning.

I think a lot of us have 'ideas', but they are just that until the code is in our hands to really see what is there, and what needs to be filled in.
