How do I Export a list of recorded TV?

I'd like to export a list of all the shows That I have recorded into a spreadsheet. Is there a way to grab this info from wiz.bin?

Not directly from wiz.bin (well, someone on here DID make a utility for pulling info from wiz.bin, but it's relatively new and I'm not sure on it's capabilities). There are other ways to access that info via API's. If you have the sagex plugin installed (which is likely for most users), than you can make an api call via http that will return the info. There are also links at the top of most pages of the SageTV Web UI to download an XML file of the information contained in that report.

i don't know how to make an API call and not sure if i have the sageex plugin installed as it doesn't sound familiar but the Web interface (Sage V6.6) only has an option to import an XML file, not export. There should be an easy way to do this i would think.

Isn't there a little XML button on just about every page of the Web interface?

Ouch.. I have no idea what the v6 version had - it's been a very long time since I've seen it. But I thought not much had changed in it with the move to v7. In any case - no real reason not to upgrade to v9 at this point.

Did you click it on a page that listed your recordings?

Just a guess...

I know that i can view the recording directory but would like to have a formatted output like the web browser provides. The XML button on the output creates an empty xml file, at least with this version of the WebUI. I think i am spiraling down a rat hole with this so may just give up soon.

I would add that such an api query result would actually be useful for another use(r) I know, but I'm not going to be anywhere that I can try to work that out for a couple weeks yet. So I'd be interested in the answer as well, although I'm running STV9, so I'm not as constrained as is the case here.

Right, I meant what's the ultimate goal? What is the info to be used for? Maybe there's already another way to reach the end goal.

I know I'd just be using it get a list of files and their associated file sizes. I now also know there is an api call within sage for that information via
Code:
public long GetSize(sage.MediaFile MediaFile)

Gets the total size in bytes of the files on disk that represent this MediaFile
Parameters:
MediaFile - the MediaFile object
Returns:
the total size in bytes of the files on disk that represent this MediaFile
But not being near my sagetv system at this time, I can't fire up sageex to play with it.

After I upgraded my SageTV V6.5 Webserver to a newer version, i was able to export the XML from the Web Recordings page view and then import the XML into Excel and get the show listings. unfortunately, there isn't file size data in the XML which is my primary reason for the effort so i can tell how much space is being consumed on a per show basis.

I'd just drop to a command line and do a "dir" and drop that in excel. The recordings are all named by show.
