during video playback, a long press up/down sends a big skip back/forward (<< or >>) which allows me to move quickly around a video (I use +30s and -20s for > and <, with +150 and -130 for >> and <<.

the only thing i noticed is that during video playback, the long press keys seem counter-intuitive to me: e.g. the long up sends me back in time, not forward. was that intentional (i'm sure i could get used to it) or could it be switched so that during video playback, long up moved up in time and long down moved back in time?

in any case, i think the smart remote implementation really works well with sagetv.
great job!

ok, how do i get to the "miniclient settings"? I see where to change the video player, but i cannot for the life of me find any other settings

If video is playing and you hit right/left, it will skip right left. If you long press right/left it will skip commercials, etc. There are a number of remote enhancements that have been done to make it flow better.

If you use FLIRC or some other type of IR receiver and a full remote, be sure to turn off "Smart Remote" in the MiniClient settings.

Unfortunately, no. Android TV, for some reason, prevents you from using a customer Home Screen application, which is too bad, since, it really deters innovation on the homescreen front, if you can't replace it. There is a setting in the MiniClient settings, though, to connect automatically to the last connected server... but that's not what you are asking about, I realize that.

In the Mi Box settings, under Apps, when you select an app from the Downloaded Apps section, there is an option to uninstall. just remove the ones you don't want. If the app is listed in the System Apps, then you can use the "Disable" but be careful, if you disable a system app, that is required by the box, you might make the box unusable, and require a complete firmware replacement.

When you first start the miniclient there is a configure section before you start the connection to the server. I've instead of selecting a server to connect to select the settings box. If you are on a tablet the UI might be different and the settings icon looks like a sprocket.

smart remote request

i've moved miniclient on Mi-box up to my main system, so i'm getting regular use and feedback from the family.
it replaces both a hd300 AND a roku box, so one less remote too

would it be possible to add the following to the smart remote?

while in Program Guide (only)
long > (skip ahead one day, similar to what old >> did)
long < (skip back one day, similar to what old << did)

i use this all the time and sorely miss it.
currently, these specific two controls are unused in program guide.

a second issue is subtitles that are embedded (e.g. no separate SRT file).
i understand that this is not in the current build.
is this something that is possible (and hence doable) or is there a more fundamental obstacle?

thanks

is there a way to change how long a "long" press is? i am finding it very difficult to press play , versus long press play (which annoyingly brings up nav/info)

I'm same as cat6man, takes too long to get a long-press. Which I guess is also a call for it to be configurable...

Just FYI, the problem with the keyboard getting stuck is not limited to providing a Locator ID. I have a new 4K FireTV purchased during the holidays. I was using the keyboard to enter channel numbers in the guide, and found myself stuck with the keyboard over the top of the Sage app and no apparent way to exit the keyboard. Even after using the home key on the FireTV remote to get back to FireTV home, the keyboard still was on top. I will probably have to reboot as JazzTech did.

I've also added this as a comment to the GitHub bug report that AzJazz opened.

BTW, thanks for the miniclient; it's awesome! Using it on our new FireTV in the Family Room, I've been able to reassigned the Family Room Sage Client PC to my Home Theater, whose PC had died.

Android client keycodes

In the android client, is there a single key press that can exit from the SageTV client back to the android launcher ?

I'm using an All4One ir remote and should be able to program in any key code the ShieldTVs' OS won't eat.

I'm having trouble in the Mi Box getting 5.1 audio from the Android Miniclient. On the HD300 I for sure get DD 5.1 for the same shows. And from other apps on the Mi Box I get 5.1 or even DD+.

I haven't tested on shield yet - that's the next step. But I would like good audio on the android side if possible....

Are you using ExoPlayer or IJKPlayer? IJK doesn't support it, but ExoPlayer "might" (at least on the Shield it appears to support it).

I'm using IJK. I can't ever get Exo to work on my 1080i MPEG2 recordings.

Yes, sadly, IJK doesn't support audio passthrough, but is pretty stable... Exo is pretty flaky, but does support audio passthrough
