2017 F1 update....

For those interested, Bernie's gone, America owns it (?), Williams has hired a Canadian youngster, and Ferrari may actually have been productive this winter, if the following clip holds true:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Cr0VIGbyj64

Let's go!

Smart money is still on Mercedes/Hamilton. I'm a long time Williams fan and would love to see them do well.

The new spec cars look awesome. Much faster! Now if they could only work on the aero regs a little more to make overtaking easier.

Maybe the new, American owners will go there.

You can get streaming now IIRC, but it's expensive.

At least it's on TV on a mainstream network. They moved MotoGP to some obscure network (BeIn) that my cable company doesn't carry. I'm debating if I should cough up the ridiculous amount of money they want to stream it.

Really, I haven't been able to find anything (that looks legal) to stream it.

I don't know, my current solution for F1 is pretty expensive as is, F1 is the primary reason I still have cable.

It drives me crazy the way the american coverage cuts to commercial and gives you a "split screen" where you can see what is happening but you miss the commentary or radio transmissions.

I haven't looked yet, who has the broadcast rights in the US this year?

I am just hoping that there will be somebody/some team that can put real pressure on Hamilton/Mercedes.

Agreed - they should throw up commentary subtitles on the split screen bottom during commercials.

I hate that as well. And if they "have to" do that, put the race in the BIG window and the stupid commercials in the smaller window!

I'm lucky, Comcast here at least has BeIn as part of the Sports Package. MotoGP and World SuperBike.

Yeah, I was surprised to see that today as well. Especially since I hadn't heard any rumors about it at all. Strange because usually the drivers in other series have it pretty much verboten in their contracts to race Indy, especially if it conflicts with a race in their own series.

Maybe he is way more disgruntled with the poor development pace of the Honda package than he has hinted at before. Right now they are back to where they were 2 seasons ago, not being able to keep the thing running for an entire race and even at that being mid-field pace AT BEST.

I wonder if they'll pull Button back to fill in for Monaco? He is still "technically" still under contract.

there are a lot of tie-ins with this story. Andretti drove for McClaren. McClaren F1 uses Honda engines, so I imagine the Andretti sixth car will be a Honda-McClaren. McClaren USA will use Alonso to sell a bunch of street cars to Newport Beach / Palm Beach financiers. And yes, McClaren's F1 season is down the tubes, so as a PR stunt, it makes a lot of sense to take the heat of the stench of that fiasco. It's bizarre that Honda is so good with Indy engines but so bad on their return to F1.
Nonetheless, it will be a nice tie-in also for the new, American F1 owners to bring their brand to an American event

McLaren is terrible ... again. I'm surprised Alonso is still there. On the plus side, it looks like the Hamilton - Vettel battle will be fantastic to watch. Go Lewis!

Agreed. Go Kimi! (because his radio communications are the best).
Alonso probably is one of the few F1 drivers who makes a salary, as opposed to bringing money to the team, don't you think?

I agree with all of that. It will bring some good press to Honda from a wider audience to see IndyCar and the good success Honda has had there over the years. After a few seasons back in F1 where they haven't had much success at all it will give some welcome relief for at least a few weeks.
