Question Moving to Windows 10

I'm currently in the planing phases of consolidating 3 machines into one (Storage Server (WHS 2011), TV Recording/Media (Win 7), BlueIris and HomeSeer machines (Win 10)), and adding Plex. This machine will have Windows 10 64b Pro.

My TV Recording/Media machine has (2) 2250 OTA Tuners, (1) InfiniTV 4 Pcie. I use SageTV as my Recording software, and MCEBuddy for the post work.

Will the Ceton work without WMC, In Windows 10? (I don't use WMC anyway but I'm pretty sure I remember I had to use it to get the Ceton setup (Years and Years ago)).

My InfiniTV6 PCIe worked fine in W10 Pro without WMC. It kept throwing entries in Event Viewer, but did not affect anything I could see.

When I reloaded the Ceton app on Windows I use whatever the latest ones were that were posted on the web. I think I got it from thegreenbutton forum, not Ceton's web site. It was named ceton_infinitv_setup_w8_13_06_03_1088.exe and worked on Win10.

I am a member of the small, exclusive, club that had a Ceton USB box. They do not work on Win 10, as their drivers do not work beyond Win 8.

I understand, from what I read, that the Infinitv PCI cards work OK in Win10.

Ethernet Ceton also works OK. There is a known issue with memory leakage and they require periodic reboots. Since moving to Unraid, and beefing up the cooling fans I run across the boxes, I am now going about a month before they either reboot themselves, or require rebooting.

I switched to unRAID, but I keep all the drivers I've downloaded. For Ceton I have the same install file as egeller laying about, so must have been using that as well.

That's the one. At least it has the same name and is what I used.

New machine is built and all older machines consolidated.

Of all the things that could go wrong, this is one that I had not anticipated.

The InfiniTV 4 Pcie works fine on a reboot, and seems to continue to work fine if its used. At some point (most likely when not in use), the card just stops working.

1) All power management settings in Windows 10 Pro are off (Except HDD) and set to High Performance.
2) The Ceton diagnostic system can't find card either.
3) If I restart the CetonTRIFsrc service, the Ceton diagnostic software finds the card almost instantaneous but will not authenticate the CableCARD.
4) I can't find any errors in the Windows Event logs
5) At that point the only 'fix' is to reboot the machine.

Any idea's??

I had the same problem in my wmc pc. I tried everything but what ended up fixing it was moving the card to a different pcie slot.

Yikes, I haven't seen anything like that. I'd run it by Ceton support.

I was going to suggest trying one of the Beta drivers on Ceton's download page, but it appears their beta drivers are just links to files of the same name as their standard drivers.

You may need to spend some time over at TheGreenButton forums reading. You might even find some older drivers in there.

http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/viewforum.php?f=68

Just FYI, my Infinitv4 and Infinitv6 Pcie both experience the same problems that you experience, in an older Windows 7 machine. Usually it takes 2 to 4 weeks before the problem shows it's head, and I just deal with it. When I get ticked off enough at it, I'll buy a Prime, maybe that new 6 tuner on one m-card that's coming out.

I setup a SageTV system at my parent's place too, and that had to be reliable because I can't always troubleshoot it on the spot and they are home a lot. I started with the Infinitv4 in a machine I built for them with the same unreliable results, every few days though. I finally switch to (2)HDHR Prime units with (2) cablecards and it was okay, then after a Prime firmware update, it became a nightmare, require full system power cycles sometimes more than one a day. That lasted about 4 months, and then SiliconDust finally found the firmware problem they had introduced and fixed it (whew!). Now that system will run for a month or two at a shot with maybe 1 to 4 failed recordings, usually something late at night when the cable company is probably doing maintenance. Once I got the Primes stable, I never allowed another update after that last fiasco.

One other thing that comes to mind - temperature can be a problem for these units, so keep an eye on that (the webview status, click on a tuner, then switch from Status tab to Tuner tab). My 6 currently operate at about 45 degrees C.

My case has a fan on the side panel that blows inward, right on the Ceton Pcie card.

Here's a person that made a temperature monitor;

I'm not sure what the Win10 high perf plan is, but if this machine is allowed to sleep, you'll need to quit doing that and keep the machine on 24/7/365.

Is Ceton support still around? I have a feeling even if they were, they would just say Windows 10 is unsupported.

Not sure how the support thing would pan out. Did you check the temps?
