MiniClient on NVidia: Keyboard/Mouse Sufficient?

I have started playing around with the MiniClient on an NVidia Shield box and NVidia is telling me that I need some sort of game controller to work with MiniClient.

Been using a wireless keyboard/mouse and it seems to suffice.

Has anybody found a need for the game controller?

I’m using a harmony that the shield thinks is a keyboard when operating sage, works great. I did discover that if I set the shield up to listen for Ok Google, then leave the controller plugged in, I can program a harmony button to the Windows/start button (I think) and it will keep the controllers mic on, which works well from across the room. If I don’t have the controller in the mix I have to use the shield remote voice button to wake up the remotes mic. Plus WAF on those little remotes is nonexistent in my house.

Curious to find out whether google is listening to me but for now it works

I found the NVIDIA Shield remote control was too basic and the volume control didn't work well. I also couldn't skip forward or backwards so I bought the Harmony Companion remote control with the Harmony Hub. I just finished setting it up and it works great. Don't use the Windows MyHarmony software because it doesn't work. Use the Harmony iOS or Android app on your phone to do the setup. I also have a Logitech K410 keyboard but I probably won't need that now that I have the Companion remote.
