HD300 playback pauses 1-2 seconds following skip fw or skip bk

I decided to do a fresh install of the v9.2.6 Server due to some Jetty debug logging I noticed in my v9.2.2 Server install but couldn't find an easy way to disable. The fresh install did fix that issue but I'm now seeing that the skip fw and skip bk buttons on my HD300 are much less responsive now.

I used to be able to press the skip fw button perhaps up to 3 times a second to skip in 10 second increments over something I didn't care to see and from what I recall it used to be very fast. Now is it taking 1-3 seconds before it starts showing the video at that new point. The audio starts more quickly.

This only seems to be bad on devices such as the HD300 or a Sony Android TV which both have only a 100 Mb ethernet port. Adding a USB3 to Gigabit ethernet adapter and using it rather than the built-in 100 Mb port on the TV does help quite a bit.

I did a speed test on both 100 Mb connections and they're performed at above 90 Mb/sec. There are no ethernet errors being reported by my router for the HD300 and SageTV Server connections to it so I believe the issue is most related to a setting I've somehow lost with my upgrade to v9.2.6.

Are there any settings in SageTV Server's Sage.properties file or the Windows registry which might help improve the skip fw performance with 100 Mb ethernet connected devices such as the HD300?

Since you mention that this is a new setup, Did you change the Java Heap settings?

Also, you didn't mention if this was 32 or 64 bit setup. 64 bit would allow for more Java heap and would be helpful when using extenders (typically with multiple extenders)

Yes, the the uninstall did not clear the heap size setting in the registry so it is still high.

I did some more debugging of the problem and found the issue last night... I recently had a smart switch fail on my network so I had to juggle my network connections. I decided to connect the HD300 and SageTV server directly to the router which can monitor for receive errors and dropped packets rather than a dumb switch which cannot.

The cable from the HD300 to the router was likely damaged slightly during all this re-wiring and is probably causing retransmissions which unfortunately won't appear as receive errors or drops in the router stats. The retransmissions are making the traffic to/from the HD300 bunch up a bit which might explain the laggy skipping. When I switched to a different cable the HD300 network light became less bursty.

I guess it's time to re-terminate that Cat-6 cable :-(.

I set up a new server a few months ago and it seems a wee bit slower than my previous server as well- it maybe takes about a half a second for the picture to reappear. I will have to compare this to my older server as it is still running. Both servers are on unRAID Linux.

I thought it might have been due to hard disk speed and or recording to a drive in my drive pool. I will try recording to my cache drive and see if this is different.
