Android miniclient - "boots" Shield

Since upgrading to 1.11.0, on occasion, and randomly, when playing a recorded show (from HD-PVR), the screen goes black for a second or two, the word "android" appears in big letters, and then the Shield returns to its main screen. It is almost like the Shield is rebooting, but it is not a complete reboot, since the Nvidia logos don't show - just the word "android".

I'd say the MTBF - mean time between failures - is on the order of 15 minutes.

Shield is fine - no problems with Netflix, Plex, etc.

Never saw this behavior with the previous miniclient version.

Any hints/suggestions?

Is this the Shield Pro or standard Shield?

That is interesting. I have seen similar on an Onn box, but have not been able to repo it to get a stack trace. I have only seen this with Live TV, with ExoPlayer. If you have the ability to grab logs when this happens that would be helpful.

It is a regular Shield, not the Pro.

I am running IJKPlayer, in Fixed streaming mode.

i'm also getting strange behavior with the latest client and the Shield Pro.
i get occasional lockups, which i think are related to:

multiple quick remote clicks
resuming programs previously started
other stuff

often, the screen locks up, then eventually goes back to server login page with a 'connection lost' message on the screen.

i CAN get back to the shield pro home page and use other apps, so it seems only the sagetv client is getting locked up.

this is happening 20-50% of the time, so this is not a rare occurrence here.

if you need a log file of something, let me know and i'll upload (please specify which log files you want to see)

By any chance are you using fanart and thumbnails? There is a problem with Android and long filenames ...especially the long names in thumbnails.

nope, no fan art
i have thumbnails but that never had a problem until this latest drop of the client

Did the latest version I just released get installed yet? I think I fixed the issue.

Im having issues as well with 1.12

I have 3 regular shields that will go black and exit sage and I sometimes have to power off the shield and restart.

Im using IJK fixed streaming

I roll back to 1.9.3 and its stable.

I added Crashlytics support to the latest version. Would you mind going to the general settings in the client and setting the user name to your forum handle. When the app crashes I should get a report the next time you launch the app. If you can post on here the approximate date and time of the error I can then look for it in the list.

I am not seeing your name in the crashlogs. Did SageTV crash, or did live TV just freeze but the application was still responsive? If it did crash did you reopen the app after the crash to send the logs? It sends the next time the app opens.

i will do this as well.
i added a usb stick but still cannot set the logging option in the client settings.
(kodi and others apps do see the usb stick)

plays previously recorded show
fail to play previously recorded show
watches current program ok
fails to watch current program

all the fails lock the screen and drop back (eventually) to the sagetv server selection page

The app didnt crash, screen went black and ui was unresponsive. If i restart the app it works fine for a while (10-15 minutes)

I am not finding these in the crashlytics logs . I am seeing a bunch of stuff, but not these crashes. Just a few questions to see if I can possibly repo on my side.

1. You are running 1.12.0 version of the client correct?
2. Are you also using IJKPlayer?
3. Does this only happen on LiveTV?
4. If only on live tv, what type of LiveTV files? .ts/.ps h.264/mpeg2?

Do you possibly know how to run ADB to capture a debug log of the event?

Are you pretty sure that any version after 1.9.3 has this issue? And the issue is only with IJKPlayer?

I can only use IJK player. Some of my recordings/live tv choke on Exoplayer once in a while.

I have 4 shields, two of them where locked on 1.9.3 and the other two started having problems this week on 1.12. I imagine they auto updated from 1.11 this week, if there was a problem with it I would of heard from my wife!
