Is there some sort of limit to the photo slide shows?

Hi, I figured I would ask this differently as my last post about this issue never received any answers or even a comment.

When I start a slide show it works for some length of time then exits. I have over a thousand pictures in it. I tried replacing all of them with versions I shrunk significantly. No perceived difference.

How do I find out if there is a maximum number of files or some other limit?

Thanks, Bill

"...some length of time..."
What slideshow times have given issues?

I have ~1,400 pictures in my picture folder (with multiple topic subfolders). We have let the slideshow run for a few hours and it has not had any problems.

Ok, that's good to know. I don't know how long, probably less than an hour. Maybe I have a picture it cannot deal with. Should be fun to figure out which one is the issue. Bummer. -Bill

I used to have an image file that would cause Sage to crash. It was a TIF file. See this thread: https://forums.sagetv.com/forums/sho...ght=tiff+crash

Bummer, just searched for .tiff and .tif files, there were some in random places but nothing near sage or in my photos folder sagetv uses. Thanks for that!

I did just find a picture with an & in the file name. I didn't think that was a valid character on windows. I renamed it just in case. I also found a couple .png files.

I was looking in the sage logs. Maybe it would be in the java logs.. now I just need to find those..

I think I mention in that other thread what log had the crash. Also try to open the offending image in the Photos section of SageTV.

There have also been instances where images that were displayed in the guide caused crashes. Here is a thread about the show Game of Talents. Maybe this will help yoiu narrow it down: https://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66684

I just came to post a new thread and saw this one at the top and it might be the same issue I am having so I thought I would start here instead of starting a new thread.

Bigbill, I can run slideshows til the cows come home on my HD300s - they have gone for hours and hours - sometimes all day in my kitchen. I have probably 5,000 photos in my directory.

BUT -- I also have 3 Chromecast with Google TV boxes hooked up to TVs running the Android miniclient. On those, the slideshow will go for about 20 minutes and then it will freeze on one picture for a few minutes and then it crashes out of Sage back to the GoogleTV home screen. It feels like a memory problem to me. I assume the code for the slideshow somehow fills up the Chromecast memory until it crashes it. Exact same thing happens on all of my Chromecasts and also on a Mibox that I have, so I am sure it has something to do with the miniclient. I have Sage running on my unraid server with a ton of memory allocated to it but I can report how much if that helps. This has been happening ever since I got the miniclient -- just took me this long to post.

Was your problem perhaps on your Nvidia shield?

I actually came here to post to see if anyone else's slideshow was crashing from the miniclient. I am hoping to find out if it crashes for everyone and then see if we can enlist someone who knows what they are doing to see if they can figure out what is causing the crash and fix it. I want to retire my HD300s but my wife needs the slideshow!

Any thoughts appreciated.

Yes, its on my Shield. Both a 2017 model and a newer round one. Bummer. Those boxes can play a lot of newer formats so my HD200's are mainly gathering dust. So the mini client has the issue. Bummer. -Bill
