Question Need help with Sagetv/PVR-150, satellite dish

I hope someone can help me, would be much
appreciated, here,s my problem

I have an Hauppauge PVR-150 with ir blaster that comes with it,
a bell ExpressVu satellite receiver/decoder,
and Sagetv, all working perfectly or almost, except one thing:

When i schedule a recording i would like my setup to turn ON
my satellite receiver before the recording, and turn it Off
afterwards, right now, i have to switch it on, and after the recording
is finished turn it off, the ir blaster that comes with the Pvr-150,
does not do it, is there another ir blaster that can do this ????

thanks in advance....

OK, I'll bite & maybe say something wrong so someone else can give better info.

I seem to recall something like this coming up before & the general response seemed to have been that people just leave the STB turned on. On the other hand, quite a bit can be done with a USB-UIRT & Girder, so maybe someone configured them to be able to turn the box on or off. (Turning it off sounds like it would require SageTV to send some signal that a recording is over & I don't know that it does such a thing.)

If none of that works, I suppose someone could be really inventive & make use of the optional schedule txt file like SageWake does & use that data in another program to determine when to have the STB on. Sounds like it might be easier to just leave it on...

hmm, why do you want to have it turn on and off? The PC will have to be on all the time anyway? I suppose you're wasting 10 watts leaving it on all the time, but most people are doing a lot of recording, especially if they have inteligent recording enabled (mine is basically recording 24hrs a day). I know there is mention of "power on" in the ir blaster setup software, but I believe it only has option to turn it on before sending the channel numbers....which you're probably already aware of.

BTW: I use a bev 3100 and obviously I leave it powered.

Sometime i'm gone 3-4 days at a time, work on the road.....
so leaving the set top box turned on 24/24 7 days a week, is
not an option i like, as for my computer, it's in sleep mode
when not in use.....

seems silly, your computer in sleep mode is still using more power then just leaving the sat box on 24/7.

Robby when had dish I never shut my dish box in three+ year unless the power when out and was only time it was ever off, even my SageTV server was never in sleep mode becuase I found sleep mode to be a joke and was really made for laptop not desktop.
The only thing I really hate about my cable box is my cable box will not turn it self back on like dish box if the power gose out which real drag and end up with miss recording which I know I going have add UPS to it.
SageTV dose not have an option for turn on and off the receiver box before schedule a recording.

Talking

Well, it was worth a shot, i guess i'll have to leave my
set top box on, as for my computer, when in sleep mode,
just about everything is off, even the fans....

As for my idea, well i got answers from Hauppauge, that
the idea will be looked into, by the enginnering, and software
programmers, Who knows, maybe a small utility, or
driver option in the future, that all software makers
like Sagetv, etc..., could use....

Anyway, let me finish by saying this, i just started, this hobby
2 weeks ago, and this community around SageTv, just blows me away,
it's great to see people, actually helping others out, and sharing
ideas, and tricks, i never miss a day, just reading the forums here....

Cheers..
