Jerky Video
I'm starting to experience a small catch in the video at about one-second intervals. It doesn't seem to matter which encoder I use, either. I'm using the latest version of SageTV.
I'm running Windows XP MCE, although I've also experienced this problem with XP Professional.

Don't think it's common, but some people have reported it. You aren't running comskip in the background are you? That does eat some cpu... You might also want to look at reclock which some people have said smooths things out for them. Just search the forum for reclock. You'll probably find a lot of info on this stuttering effect.

That's odd. I too started having this problem. Thought it was fragmentation, but took care of that and I still see the stuttering. After a reboot, I get around it by starting sage and seeing it stutter, shut it down, and restart it...then no more stutter.

Have you guys tried starting sage w/ increased priority? I start mine with a batch file and /abovenormal priority. Let me know if you want my .bat file.
It could also be VMR9, try using overlay and see if the situation changes.

I've been seeing frame drops that occur after a jump or fast fwd/rwd action. It appears that it can't quite figure out the decoding. If I repeatedly jump/rewind, things will eventually sync back up. It occurs about 70% of the time a commercial is skipped.
Server is an AMD 64/512MB RAM/500 GB RAID 5 system, with only one client active.

Hmm...
The really weird thing is that it only appears to be happening on the Spike Channel...
