I just think it is funny when he says, "whats wrong with you all, whats the point of having a HTPC if u cant use it to play video games as well?".

It is called a HTpc for a reason... Yes, you could play games on it. It is a PC after all. But it is designed for HT, not games. Don't be surprised that it isn't designed for ease of use with games.

Honestly, that is what my XBOX is for... And soon my XBOX 360...

A trolling we will go, a trolling we will go, dah dah de dum de dum, a trolling we will go...

Yeah, that's what I figured, but I didn't feel like going out to search all the other forums. I figured there must be some bit of comic relief here, what with each one being the 'only' one that works... sort of.

Not anymore my friend. I paid $750 for my 8-inch magnetic focus Ampro 3300. If you get rebuilt ones they are the very best for cost/performance currently available.

I thought the appearance of Slick was too coincidental.

Talk about being outted!

At least it seems he realized he may have been a little harsh with his first post. Good luck to you Slick/007 !

It appears that 007's cover is blown. We should call in "Q" to build the DVD/Stereo/TV/Game console that fits inside a shoe.

LOL

[QUOTE=Slick]i think he's speaking out for all HTPC frontends not just sage, and i have to agree with him , theres not many out there you can easily customize to what YOU want, so far the only one i've seen is Meedio and it's not very stable.

However, in listening and reading many Frey interviews, I believe that SageTV creators developed this software with the intention of giving users an alternative to Tivo, with more customization flexibility and without the monthly fees.

Being a former Tivo user and cancelling my subscription once SageTV proved to me to be extremely stable, I can say that they have suceeded in that goal with flying colors!

Going to be controversial briefly, but I think the future of these apps *is* to be general purpose; I'm not just looking for a PVR. Ideally I'd like to have just one thing in my living room - a flat screen monitor with integrated PC. Only three leads into it - ethernet, power and speaker. And it does *everything* - no separate radio, no X-Box, no separate phone. It needs an integrated IR receiver (for remote, MCE keyboard & 2 wireless gamepads), wireless handset (for VoIP), webcam (for video conferencing) & a VFD display so that you can do music & radio without having the screen on. And all driven from a Sage/MCE style interface. If it was really well designed the keyboard & gamepads would store neatly behind it, too.

Then you have a server somewhere else in the house with all the inputs. That's my dream, anyway, and I do sometimes get frustrated that I can't yet have it!

20 grand for a projector or the bulb??
about the most expensive projector I could find was 18K, and the bulb was around 900. where most are in the 1-3k range for a projector and 200-400 for bulbs.
what decade was your price from? I do remember when projectors cost 20K, and required annual servicing to have the beams refocused/calibrated. if you have that one it may be time to replace it.

Isn't video supposed to come out of the client PC and into the display device?

I believe the video comes into play here:

That's the one - you can purchase them, as here:

http://www.itreviews.co.uk/hardware/h764.htm

However, no-one seems to do a proper review of the screen in any of the reviews of the Lumina; frankly I'd like to know what make it is when it's sold standalone, because no way are Elonex making it themselves. Then I could find out whether it's actually any good! It can't do 1080p, though, which is really what I'd like. And of course it doesn't have an integrated VFD so you have to have the screen on to do radio/music.

I wouldn't want to be forced to upgrade my monitor every time I upgrade my PC, nor vice-versa. But to each, his own.

Neither would I. You can get into the back of them to upgrade stuff; unsupported, but that's the norm if you upgrade your computer yourself.
