I had to vote 4:3 only because that's all I have - it's not what I want.

When we got our Toshiba 55" a few years back physical space was at a premium. We went the widest that would fit and decided 4:3 figuring when watching 4:3 content picture would be bigger and 16:9 the same as if went 16:9 unit same physical width.

Primary TV: 4x3, @ 1776x1000i. This is a non-square pixel arrangement. So:
We have two secondary TVs that are good old fashioned 4x3 @ 480i. If you didn't catch my hint above, I think the possibility to correct for non-square pixels (in the core) would be a great feature. However, I undertand that the non-square-pixel peeps are a minority within a minority, so I'm not holding my breath. The only reason I implemented it in WRS was because our primary display has it, not out of the goodness of my heart. Bottom line, I'm abstaining because I don't want to skew results with a non-square-pixel data point. It would be nice if the core could implement a correction factor for non-square pixels, but I certainly wouldn't put it at the top of your list . |

Should have been an option for BOTH.
I spend almost exactly 50% of my viewing time on a 4:3, and 50% on a 16:9... Although the more I do HD recordings, the more I watch on 16:9. Not necessarily because I casre about the HD quality per se, but because I only have an MVP client on my SD TV and can't watch them at all.... Now if Sage releases an HD capable Extender, I'll be back to 50%/50%... Jason |

16:9 TV, running Sage at 1280x720 using PAL Svideo-out for recording PAL SDTV... Yep lots of video scaling going on there, but it actually looks better than a ???x576 display resolution!
Currently have to switch between 4 AR's in Sage:
But... I am in the progress of writing an auto AR switching plugin that switches AR based on various criteria (file type, channel, program name etc)

Replace bulb?
I don't mean to hijack the thread but have been curious about this for a while. For those of you with projectors who use them as frequently as a normal CRT, how often do you need to replace your projector bulb?
I have a STD 4:3

I currently have a 4:3 SDTV, but I'm saving for a 16:9 in the near future

For my typical usage of around 1000 hours a year then it would be every few years give or take. I run a ND2 filter on mine to bring the light output down and around 1500 hours or so I'll remove it to get it back up to where it was. I use a light controlled environment for what it's worth. A bulb will set you back around a few hundred dollars each time, but the pic will look as good as new in a DLP once you replace it, assuming your colorwheel is clean. |
