Why can't it ... ?

Ok, Sage is a great product, no argument there; however, as I was installing 4.1 today I was thinking the following:

A man walks into a bar with a two foot salami under one arm and a poodle under his other. He sits them on the bar and says.........

Sorry, the kids distracted me and I forgot to come back and edit (finish) my question/statement.

What I was intending to say was:

My HTPC hardware costs upwards of $1K. Tivo or other branded PVRs might cost around half that. So why is it that the TV out from one of those boxes is "TV" quality and all the text is readable... and so on? What type of video card is in a Tivo? They don't have the Java problems, the studdering, the tearing, the shimmering, etc. I bet it's not on the scale of a 6600 or 6800 card... ?

They're using hardware decoding and it only has to be written to work with the hardware in their boxes. Sage on the other hand has to function with literally millions of hardware combinations. Obviously Sage can't spend all of their time optimizing Sage for a specific piece of hardware.

With that said, I run a 6600GT at 720p on a HDTV and the text looks great in Sage and so does the desktop. The video quality is as good and in some cases better than live cable through the TV because the HTPC does a better job of scaling than my TV does.

I haven't tried the MVP yet, but I'd imagine the quality is as good as a TIVO. For $99 it sounds like a pretty good deal.

The MVP output to my bedroom TV (Old 32" Sony composite only) it a beautiful picture!!! Better than what I'm seeing on my 50" LCD Projection with a 9800Pro. Makes me realize that the recordings are very good quality... so what I see on the 50" is NOT a encoding thing its the output and scaling to that size!
