SageTV 4.0 & Firefly questions
I'm setting up my Firefly remote with SageTV 4.0. I've corrected all of the playback commands(the original .xml files were only about 90% accurate) and a few buttons in the SageTV-FreyTechnologies-1.4.xml file. I still have a few small issues.
1. Is it possible to program one of the A, B, C, or D buttons to jump to the weather menu? 2. Is there a way to bring SageTV into focus usign the remote? My PVR computer is also used to browse email and such. Sometimes I forget to leave SageTV on top. 3. Pushing the Firefly button once launches SageTV. Pushing it again trys to turn it off, but a second blank white window with a title bar called Sagewin appears. What is this second window? How can I push the Firefly button the second time and have it close SageTV? I know I have the close button, but it would close the window that is in focus. If I can get this to work, it could be a work-around for question #3. 4. Can I reprogram the maximize and close buttons? Which file would this be? Last edited by timrob; 02-01-2006 at 09:07 PM. |

My suggestion ...
1 - Download the Basic Firefly Drivers (Forget the Beyond Media junk) http://www.snapstream.com/download/firefly/ 2 - Download Girder Firefly Edition (Girder 3.31c with the Girder Firefly Plugin) http://www.snapstream.com/download/firefly/ 3 - Use the SageTV GML File for Girder http://www.sage-community.org/index.cgi/wiki/Girder Install the Firefly drivers, then Girder, Copy the SageTV GML into the Girder folder and follow the setup directions from the Wiki page. Girder isn't that difficult to learn. After that, you can do just about anything. You can program any button to do just about any Sage command. You can also use Girder's Multigroup to setup sort or macro batch commands. I use these to program remote buttons to navigate to anywhere in my custom Nielm dynamic menus. For example, I programmed ABCD for Recorded TV, the Schedule, Time Scroll and Delete. I change Help to go to News, Weather & Traffic and programmed Mouse to Add a Favorite. Menu is for the Guide and Firefly always takes me to the Main Menu. Of course I programmed Maximize to toggle and Close to close (send Sage to the System Tray. Then I Programmed ENT to Launch SageTV and Exit to Exit. Info = Info and Option = Options. Of course Music, Photos, DVD, TV and Video are obvious. Anyway ... I love the setup and was well worth the $20 for girder. That's my 2 cents ... let me know if you decide on Girder and if you want to check out my GML for reference. If not, I suggest doing a search for Firefly on this forum. You will find a bunch of info for sure ... Good Luck, T. |

I know about Girder, but right now I really don't want to go there. I finally got my system stable and don't want to add another variable right now. Maybe in a bit. I was hoping to just edit what I have.
I've searched on this forum, byopvr, shpsvr, and honestly, I haven't found a lot about just reprogramming Firefly with SageTV 4.0. What I did helped me get to where I'm at know. I need to check Snapstream some more, but the little I checked kept referencing this forum. Any other forums you would suggest? |

SHS,
TV button work, txs. Just found the maximize, close, and firefly buttons in the global.xml. Didn't see it before because I didn't know how to edit it. Used notepad as suggested and worked fine. |

Don't buy Beyond Media
A note I received from Snapstream tech support about the .xml file for the Firefly remote. No where on the package or the website or or the install software (well maybe buried in the acceptance agreeement that nobody reads) does it state that you have to program this unit yourself. I didn't buy it to learn how to program in .xml language. I bought it to watch TV. I'm really glad now I didn't buy Beyond Media. And I'll make sure everybody I talk to doesn't buy it either.
"That is probably due to changes that Sage made -- from when the profile was originally created. We placed the original profiles in there as examples of specific versions that were supported. We do not however keep updating Each and Every profile -- tweaks have to be made for any rev. I still recommend trying the trial version of Girder. You do have to learn a little, but not xml ... |

Can't get this to work.
Installed firefly basic drivers installed girder followed instruction on that Wiki page for setting up girder for SageTV I restart computer, run SageTV and try using my remote- nothing happens. Do I have to change something in SageTV now? I see Girder's icon flash everytime I press something on my remote but SageTV is simply not responding UPDATW: oh nevermind, I thought the gml file downloaded has some default setup but it doesn't - I had to learn the events for basic things like up/down even. it looks like it is working then Last edited by vorius; 11-24-2006 at 01:48 PM. |

The downloaded gml should have had the Sage commands in there, but you get to map them to the remote buttons of your choice by learning ... check out the macros as well ... they can be great for custom menu navigation ... Enjoy ... |
