Another Converted BTV user !
Well after a successful trial I have made the decision to switch to SageTv from Btv. I have been a user of BTV for about 2yrs. and while I have tried SageTV in the past I never saw any real reason to change until recently. SageTv in its beginings just seemed to look unfinished and I always liked the simple interface that BTV had but I always had problems with stability and it always seems like they are playing catch up to SageTv in features like HD and Media integration. SageTv still has a ways to go but I do believe that they are on a better track to actualy get where I would like them to be. Btv on the other hand seems to lack the resources or desire to actualy deliver on what they have promised. The big Plus that I see with SageTv too is that they are much more responsive there loyal customers and actualy comunicate on a regular basis right here in the forums. Also the SageTv forums dont censor constructive comments or comparisons to competators products. Where as on the BTV Forums you dont dare say a bad thing about there product or mention a competitors name or it will get deleted. So here I am a converted SageTv user and feeling good about it. I have been a regular lurker her and even actualy purchased some of my hardware through the Sage Store too. I know there are several others here that have come over and I would like to here some feed back from them as to how they feel about the switch and am looking forward to any tips on enhansing my experience here. Dave

A number of people have mentioned the "heavy handed" moderation in BTV's forum. In fact, one individual posted here that even posting a discussion about censorship resulted in ...... censorship!

Hi DaveFred99,
I am a converted user as well. I left because BTV promised multi-tuner support for a while while Sage was already there. I never regreted it. The thing I like most about Sage is the community right here in the Forums. Very helpful, honest and even objective. Another thing is the incredible work done by the forum users to enhance the PVR experience through customizations and imports. So Welcome DaveFred99 and thank you for reminding me to say Thank You to this community again...

I started my PVR with Sage several years ago but switched to BTV about two years ago because of the easier interface for my wife. When I got the V5 eMail I downloaded the upgrade (just like I have for every version) and give it a shot... Well I was impressed and the extender software was so much better than either the original MVP software or the BTV freeware version.
So I demo it to my wife and she loves the extender version, but will take a little beit of getting used to the client version she uses downstairs (MVP is in her hobby room). I own a license for all the popular PVR/Media software (Meedio, MCE, Sage, BTV) and each has some features I like. The thing I will miss most from BTV is the ability to choose invidual recording directories for each show, this made it so much easier to manage a library. Also the ability to schedule a recording over the web without opening up your firewall. Just starting to play with Studio and did some minor changes on both the MVP and client interfaces (Server is just a server and never used to watch anything). Iy was a big help for the WAF to be able to change the menu to names she nuderstands and in the order she likes them. Good job Sage team but please gives more control over recording locations like BTV... Also better library management tools like Meedio, |

Former BTV user also, switched to SageTV over two years ago and never looked back. I switched at the point when they first released the multi-tuner support and released BTV Link and the ridiculous licensing fees on additional tuners. I know they removed the tuner fees now, but its too late. My posts about the matter also got censored on their forums.
Anyway, you'll like SageTV a lot better. There are quite a few threads on this forum about user feedback about the switch from BTV to SageTV. DO a search and I'm sure you will find them. As for Trevorst, I'm not what you mean by not having to open a port in your firewall for BTV web interface. As I remember, you have to open port 8129 plus port 1755 for live TV streaming. Or have they changed something in the newer version. I haven't installed BTV 4.x and on as they charge an upgrade fee for BTV3 users. Which makes SageTV even a better bargain as they have not charge a single upgrade license fee even at v5.0.
