SPDIF and AV-710

I'm having difficulty getting my SPDIF out on my Chaintech AV-710 working properly. It seems that it's only coming to my amp as stereo sound. I've enabled SPDIF out in the control settings for my card. I'm using Nvidia Purevideo for my audio. I also tried AC3Filter, no change.

I need help.

It should be stereo sound unless the audio was record in DD 5.1.

Make sure AC3Filter is set to pass through the audio. In my SageTV I am not using AC3Filter as my audio decoder but I still have to set it to pass through or it will convert to PCM before sending to my amp. Everytime I install a new SageTV version I have to reset the pass through in AC3filter. Just a thought.

How do I set passthru in ac3filter? If you mean I click the checkboxes on tha last page indicating what I want to use spdif for (ac3,dts, etc). Then I did that. Note that it is passing through audio, Just not in ac3 format because my amp is seeing it as pcm

Yes, that's what I meant. I was going from memory and didn't recall the exact setting.

What I usually do is get rid of AC3Filter altogether. I open a command prompt, change directory to "C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV" and unregister AC3Filter with "regsvr32 /u ac3filter.ax". I have to do this after every SageTV version install. I also found ac3filter.ax in a couple of other (not sage related) directories and I unregistered those as well.

I tried setting AC3Filter to "Prefer other decoder" and then selecting "Nvidia Audio Processor" within Sage and that didn't have any effect.

For AC3Filter. What exactly should I set my settings to.

For Nvidia Purevideo. How do I change my settings, I only see settings for video, none for audio.

Hi,
Are you accessing the settings thru WMP? In WMP: tools-options-DVD-advanced

If AC-3 window comes up then "prefer other decoder" to get Pure Video.

Probably have to close it and open again and you should see the green Pure Video Audio settings menu. Hope this helps. (Sorry if you have already done this).

No, I'm not accessing it through WMP. I'm using stock Sage 5.0 to play my videos, I'm not running any plugins.

But I'll try that tonight, after the hockey game (GO OILERS!!!)

To access the Purevideo settings I play a video in Sage, then run it in a window and right click on the Nvidia icon in the toolbar. It's kind of an annoying way to access it. Is there a simplier method?

I access the audio settings for Pure Video (or ac-3) thru WMP--I am also using Sage but you have to use WMP to get to the audio settings.
Randy

You still have to go into Sage and select the audio decoder (Nvidia audio decoder) there.

Yeah, it's screwy. If you play a DVD or ts file with DD encoding through WMP, only _while_ it's playing you can access the PureVideo options. A new Nvidia logo appears in the sys tray, in addition to the normal one for the card settings (that is, if you have nvidia graphics card).

If you right-click on this new icon (PV), you can now get to the audio settings for purevideo and set it to receiver/SPDIF cable or something like that.

I can access the Purevideo options while I'm playing something in Sage in a window. But just options for video, like whether to optimize for VMR9 and De-interlacing stuff. No options for Audio.

I'll try seeing if I can find them in WMP tonight. I think perhaps the reason why I couldn't access audio settings before was b/c the files I was playing in Sage were just recorded in normal stereo. So if the file has DD5.1 sound the options for audio will appear.

Okay Nvidia seriously has to just give us a config option in the Start Menu for Purevideo. The current method of accessing them are pretty stupid.

I enabled the SPDIF within WMP while playing a DVD and it worked. Thanks guys. Pretty dumb way to activate the SPDIF out, but what can you do.

Thanks for your help everyone. Now to solve that Component out problem.

Can someone please help me with this. I have AV-710 set to "SPDIF/out enable" and "AC3 or PCM Auto Select (48 khz)". NVidia decoder set for audio. If I play recorded TV I get sound. DVD on HDD, I get DD sound. AVI file with AC3 sound...I get no sound. Am I assuming correctly that I have to install ac3 filter in order to get the correct sound from AVI files or are there settings I'm missing? Any help is really appreciated.
