Miscalculating disk space?
This is not using 5.0.4 - I didn't realize that existed until I came to post this question - it's whatever version of 4 predated it.
(Can I even install 5 over 4? Or do I need to purchase an upgrade? But I digress...) Here's the situation... In the System Information screen, I have the following report: Used video diskspace 151.67gigNow, this would not be so bad, it's a fair amount of space after all. Unfortunately, here's what I have for actual installed drives: Drive E: 149gigAnd, finally, drive H (the Library import drive): 200gig USED out of 250. I don't use this for sage recordings. So, by my calcs, I have 1.3 terabytes of recording storage, used and free, a fair bit from the 600 or so that Sage is reporting. The library space used is just plain wrong, too. I've verified that paths to all drives are set up as recording folders, and they're all set to "Use all disk space." I have them all mounted in subfolders on drive F - so F's structure looks kinda like F:\VideoAnd it's those folders, rather than separate drive letters, that are specified in the setup. I'm not inclined to worry, since I'm not close to running out of space, but... 'Sup? |

Hmm, I thought that if you wanted Sage to calculate the diskspace properly you could only have 1 folder per drive listed in Sage as recording directories.
I'm sure Opus can quote chapter and verse from the manual for this |

A while back a couple of us played around with drive mappings and the disc space calculations. It might be worth a read. http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...hlight=mapping

ke6guj - that's a great thread, thanks.
Andy, it also seemed to corroborate what you suggested. It's displaying free space on F, which Windows surely is not calculating based on all of the mounted folders. The reason I'm doing the mounted folder thing is that these drives were all originally external firewire drives, and I had to do that so I could share their video folders persistently through reboots. Apparently shares on removable devices don't automagically restart themselves... I've since moved all the drives inside the case plugged into IDE controllers, so they're not removable devices anymore. I could remount them as actual drives - or, rather, change the sage recording folders from F:\VIDEO\DriveE to E:\ etcetera, BUT! Will sage be smart enough to recognize the filenames and preserve my recording info if a file seems to suddenly jump from F: to E:? Thanks for all the info! Rob |

You'll need to create and add the new path to Sage, shut it down completely (including service if it's running), move recordings and restart Sage. Once the move is recognized you can remove the old path. For example if you changed: "F:\Video\DriveG" to "G:\Video" sage would still need to see a folder at "F:\Video\DriveG" once it recognizes the recordings in their new location you can remove the old path. |

I think I get it. Steps would be:
1. Add the drive letter mounting *at the same time as* the folders are still mounted 2. Start sage. 3. Change folder path to new drive path. 4. Close sage. 5. Remove folder mountings. 6. Restart sage. ? |

you have to create a fake map of your old folders or a empty new folder to move the files to. If you tell sage to look at G:\ and F:\Video\DriveG they should see the same files twice. That wouldn't be good. So you have to open sage tell it that say G:\MyNewRecordingFolder\ is a valid recording directory. Then sage will see a new empty folder and your old files that are presumably on the root of G:\ and mapped to F:\Video\DriveG then close sage completely. Move files from G:\ to G:\MyNewRecordingFolder\ This way they wont show up on the F:\Video\DriveG map. Then when you restart Sage it will see the content in G:\MyNewRecordingFolder and not in F:\Video\DriveG. The update should then complete. Then you can remove the F:\Video\DriveG as sage recording directory. |

It hasn't been mentioned in the last few posts, but make sure you back up your wiz.bin first before you do anything else. It could save you a world of grief.

Thanks everyone - I got the folders moved and all is well.
At least, I *think* it is - without doing too much disk searching, I found at least one show recording that's not in the EPG *or* imported videos. But others in that folder are, and I don't feel like going through 900meg of files one at a time... Now perhaps next weekend I will upgrade to 5 Thanks again, Rob |
