How does SageTV define a GB?
Since the term Gigabyte has 2 meanings I would like to verify how SageTV defines it. Based up what I am seeing in the System Information it looks like they made the poor choice of a GB = 1,000,000. SageTV shows my used Library Diskspace as 44.657 GB, where XP shows the folder as 41.7 GB (44,876,042,240).
This probably explains why DVD Standard Play is shown at ~3.25 GB per hr, when I thought it was only 3 GB. What is a GB? 1,073,741,824 or 1,000,000,000 It would be nice for SageTV to include this definition of a Gigabyte in the Manual. |

1,000,000,000 bytes = 1GB for DVD or CD spec
1,024,000,000 bytes = 1GB for Harddisk format fat spec 3.25 GB per hr = 3,328,000,000 bytes mean ever hour on the hour you are recordering 3.25 GB of disk space Jeff is using bytes See below picture |

Nice background SHS. Where'd you get it? Is it available for download?

So sorry. I always go to your site for the latest drivers and extensively read the forums. I recommend anyone that has a PVR250/350 to use this site. It is your best friend. And thank you for the hint.
PS-Good review and screenshot. I just had to check it out. Gerry

SHS, how the heck do you get the background to appear with the correct colors?? No one seems to answer my question on this. On my system, the picture is always colored blue like the original showshifter background.

This really has nothing to do with SageTV, but I am on a bit of a personal mission to inform people about "gibibytes".
Technically, the term gigabyte does mean "one billion bytes" since the giga- prefix is defined as one billion. The problem is that in the computer industry we have come to interpret kilo-, mega-, and giga- as the base-2 numbers 1024 (2^10), 1,048,576 (2^20), and 1,073,741,824 (10^30). This is particularly confusing because hard drive manfacturers use the base-10 definition to make their drives sound bigger while memory manufacturers, for example, always use the base-2 definitions. To clear up this confusion, there are some new terms and abbreviations for the base-2 numbers: kibibyte (KiB) = 1,024 (2^10) bytes mebibye (MiB) = 1,048,576 (2^20) bytes gibibyte (GiB) = 1,073,741,824 (10^30) bytes while the old abbreviations retain their original meanings: kilobyte (KB) = 1,000 (10^3) bytes megabyte (MB) = 1,000,000 (10^6) bytes gigabyte (GB) = 1,000,000,000 (10^9) bytes. Here are some links: Prefixes for binary multiples Binary vs Decimal Measurements Please pass this information along. Best regards, Jason |

I can change the background without a hitch. Its just the new background is recolored blue! No matter what picture I show.
BTW, bits and bytes are digital electronic terminology. As words these letters did not exist before digital electronics. Prefixing them with giga, mega, kilo, tera all stem from the original digital electronic's meaning. As we know all digital circuits work on binary. Although giga means 1 million bytes, gigabyte has never meant exactly 1 million bytes. There are many word's in english that have a meaning other then the literal translation when used in a particular field. Last edited by falchulk; 10-16-2003 at 02:54 PM. |

I have not tried you pic yet but have tried to syncronize with myhtpc background. I also was doing it from within sage setup/multimedia/customize. I directly edited the file with the same results. Are there limitations on the picture used for he background in sage?

OK, I tried your image and got the same results! It's still way skewed to the blue side of the spectrum. Looks nothing like your pic above. I installed Sage on another PC to verify it was not something with my config. It happened there also. The only images that look right are ones that are already blue! This is 1.4.10 by the way.

falchulk,
I finally just realized what you were asking and I know there's a setting to change this in the properties file. I'll ask Jeff to respond with the setting change.

Thanks. It's been driving me crazy. I assumed it was a slidebar type deal with red/green/bue but I could not find it anywhere.
