How to STOP a recording (as opposed to cancelling)

Sometimes i need to just record a little bit of a show, and then stop the recording. But stopping a recording (Cancelling a recording) removes the entire recording from the hard drive.

How come SageTV doesn't keep the little bit that it recorded? I'd like to "stop" a recording, and keep what is recorded, instead of "cancelling" it, and deleting all that was recorded.

Can this be done?

Thanks,
John
