How can I use my SageTV 5.0 STVi (xml file) in SageTV 6?

I remember Andy mentioning there's instructions on how to do this in the Studio forurm; but didn't find the information I needed there. Can somebody please point me to the right thread?

Thanks in advance!
Michael

Have a look at the first sticky in the SageTV Studio forum.

Yes, I saw that. "Refresh(), RefreshArea() in a FocusGained, and FocusLost hooks are all gibberish to me.

All I did was make cosmetic changes to the default sagetv Programing Guide and parallel recording schedule screens. I'm not sure if the above has any relavance to me or not. Am I good to go?

So far as I know, those are the only instructions that Opus4 posted regarding making V5 STV's compatible with V6. Since that is what you asked for, that is where I pointed you. I really have no idea if the default V5 STV is in compliance with those requirements. But the safe assumption is that it probably isn't. Maybe the best solution is to duplicate your cosmetic changes in the V6 default STV so that you know you are compatible. You'll have access to the new features as well. Sorry I wasn't able to be of more help.

Aloha,
Mike

Some questions about using my SageTV 5 stv (xml file) in SageTV 6

My STV is very close to the stock sageTV 5 STV/xml. I just changed the size and positoin of some things in the program guide and the parallel schedule menus.

Is it as simple as going into detailed setup of the SageTV 6 and loading the STV? Will I have any issues? Can I simply add new sageTV 6 menus via dynamic menus?

I think that would be a bad idea, as you'd lose all the new features from the v6 STV. If you want customisations, better to customise the v6 version the same way as v5.

Dynamic Menus is working with v6 apparently.

Just to reiterate what was said above:
  1. A v5 STV is not going to work properly in v6 unless those FocusGained & FocusLost hooks are modified as needed.
  2. A v5 STV will not automatically contain any of the changes, fixes, or additions that are in a v6 STV.
