PVR250 and PVR250MCE Lockups

Hey guys, perhaps someone can help me out here... we recently got a PVR250MCE from Hauppauge so we could do some dual tuner testing in Sage 1.4 before 2.0 comes out... (so we'll be ready for the review over at htpcnews) However, all that's happening is a full lockup of the system as soon as I goto liveTV.

I am currently using the latest drivers from hauppauge .. is there a certain set of drivers that is best for this application? Both cards are "16's" from what I can tell..

Did test new card by it self?.
Check your IRQ?.
Also try unstall SageTV del the old any old file in SageTV folder start over be reinstall.
If all eles fail email me and ask for old stlye INF that may work better under Multiple PVR.

well the irq that the second one is on has something else using it too.. but it's the USB controller.. and for some reason doesn't seem to want to be changed.

as for sage, I went through and deleted it and started from scratch (uninstall, delete folder) still no go.

so the question must lie in what capture driver version to use, and do I use the same for both cards?

anyone else use the combination I am using? if so what drivers are you using?

is there some specific way to get them to work right? ie install a set of drivers for one of the regular PVR then another for the MCE version??

I had the same sitaution as you [total and complete lock-up] when going to live TV, however I was using just one PVR-250. My problem was a conflict with the AC97 audio drivers. After I updated the drivers my pvr-250 and sage worked perfectly. Hope that helps.

What PCI slot combinations have you tried? And have you confirmed that either by themselves works ok?

I have just confirmed that the MCE250 works on it's own

the regular 250 worked fine before so I know it works

I am trying to do a reverse order of installation from before now.. just installed the MCE one, using the drivers on the MCE cd..

Now i'm about to reinstall the regular 250 and see if it'll work .. I wonder if I should use the same drivers or use the modified inf file instead. (that shs sent me)

now this is really weird... got the regular old 250 in there now...

it's not locking up on me anymore, however now it's just a black screen that's displayed instead of any information.

any clues on this now?

well, I switched the inputs around on the back of the PC.. ends up that the "#2" was actually #1 when there was only 1 PVR in the machine..

Now it's #2.. and the one that's not numbered is the second one

lol!

BTW, it's all working! w00t

so.. Here goes:

Step1)
Install PVR250MCE into PC
install Drivers from CD that comes with it
Install SOFTWARE on the CD that comes with it (didn't work when I didn't do this! so it's a must do I guess)
Install SAge, setup it to use the MCE
Step2)
Install regular PVR250
install drivers from CD that came with MCE!
Use sage to setup the second Hauppauge.. in my case it ended up in becoming the first one.

lol

what an ordeal

hope it continues to work.. guess time will tell

I am glad to hear it is working. I am thinking of picking up one of those cards as a third tuner at some point and am glad to not be the first to have to go through the driver install .

Thanks!

hahaha

well, what gave me the biggest hint was when I contacted the CEO of Hauppauge.. he told me that in order for the MCE to work in regular old Windows XP, I HAD to install the whole CD, not just the drivers.. Why I have no clue.. but after deleting everything on the PC, and starting with JUST the MCE, well... it worked as outlined above.

haha

whew.

well anyways, it's awesome! Now how do I tell Sage that I want it to always use one tuner instead of the otehr for the regular old cable stations and only use the other one if there is a recording going on already and I want to watch another thing on the regular old cable stations?

I take you only install the base drivers it self and didn't install the other stuff in that case the CEO is rigth that why I build small CD kit.

The two cards work without any user control. If it is recording, and you try to record another show or go to live TV it will automatically handle that for you. It is that way for simplicity, but I think they are adding more control for advanced users in the next release.

Brad,

There's a 'merit' property setting in the properties file you can use to indicate order of preference for capture devices. If I recall, the higher number is higher priority....but I've been wrong about that before.
