So does that mean I need to set up a compression that is not default? How do I do that?

I thought if you choose default that is an in-place compression. You need to choose something other than default and choose to compress it to a folder that is NOT one of Sage's import directories. I don't use the tool but that is my understanding.

I thought so too Jerry but it in fact it puts it in Sage regardless of where you choose to compress to. I use it to seperate My wifes and my recordings we want to keep to separate drives and I do not have these drives in Sage anywhere but the recordings still show in Sage.... I really like the fact it still shows in Sage.

Great plugin!

One question though, does this have any impact on the process priority of SageTVTranscoder.exe?

Is there a way to tell compression jobs from compression jobs?

Like say archive compression and "Idle"
and
MVP realtime transcoding at "Above Normal"

Would manipulation like this be possible?

TIA, this is a must have plugin in my book!

All it's doing is using the SageTV API's to submit a compression job.

Technically, it's no different to using the compression panels to do a compression request, so all the handling of the priority of SageTVTranscoder.exe is being done by the SageTV core.

I don't know if the different SageTVTranscoder.exe tasks end up with different priorities, it's not something I've every looked at.

As for identifying the process for a particular task and manipulating the priorities, I wouldn't know where to start.

Auto Compress Help

Ok I am new just converted from BTV. Love Sage but I am trying to setup auto compress and I am having no luck.

I am runnning 6.3.5
I unzipped the zip to c:\program files\sagetv\sagetv the files appear to be in the right place.
Then I went to Sage > Setup > Detail setup > advanced > import sagetv app and then I select the auto compress app. I reboot and try to go to a favorite and advanced options and there is nothing there for auto compress.

Can anyone tell me what I am donig wrong?

Thanks

OK since you asked I figured I should try another version. I tried 1.6 and it worked but it broke my firefly remote. I installed 1.5.0_13 and everything is working great. Thanks for the help.

Unhappy

just added this STVi back into the mix so the wife can watch her soaps in semi-HD while I send the HD100 back. funny thing is, with only 1 favorite set to compress and everything else turned off I came back this afternoon to find it had started converting ALL my HD recordings. I've temporarily disabled the whole plugin until I can figure out what's going on.

Edit: checked the extender settings and still no go. guess I'll have to find a hotspot when I'm not home to kick off the conversion from PS. Anyone know if the transcoder will continue to run a conversion after I close out PS?

Do you have any channel compressions configured?

no, everything else is disabled. only 1 favorite is set to auto-compress. looks like I won't be able to get the HD100 sent off til Friday anyhow. gives me some time to tinker w/ the plugin.

Mine is working exactly as expected, compresses what it should only after CommSkip and doesn't what it shouldn't. I really like this aside from the additional server load but really no way around that.

Another thing that would be a cool add-on/feature is a better ability to configure it. As it sits now it's logical and not too difficult to maintain but on a fresh install it takes time as you need to navigate through a couple of menus before you can enable it. Is it possible to have a screen that only shows favorite name and compression enable/disable? This way you could quickly fly through and just check the boxes. Also works well for maintenance as I don't even try to tell te wife/kids how to configure it.

Either way thought this is a really sweet plugin!

EDIT: Better way to explain! The opposite view of the manage favorites, make it list only favorites not set to autocompress.

had a power outage today that wasn't long enough to drain the UPS. so I had to manually restart the server. took the opportunity to poke around in the .properties files....

found several artifacts in sage.properties from the plugin. all of my HD channels were set to auto-compress in the file.

i'll post the results of undoing the settings when i know for sure.

Hi,

I just installed this plugin great addition as some shows I really don't care too much about quality and I know a Mpeg4 avi would better after compressing a big mpeg (DVD standard quality)

Anyway.. I picked Mpeg4-High Quality Deinterlaced AVI. And the show when watching it still has "lines" or is interlaced. I'm using ffdshow v1324 July 1, 2007.

I tried playing with the deinterlacing settings in ffdshow, to no avail. Any idea why I'm still seeing interlaced video even though I picked "Deinterlaced AVI" ?

UPDATE: I did view the AVIs that were converted with Deinterlaced AVI selected, but they still appear to have a slight interlaced look to them.

I just upgraded to the latest version of Sage and this import doesn't seem to work--the df_sageutils JAR files apparently needs to be updated. I get an error message saying it is not the latest version.

Where?

What version of Java are you running?
The included df_sageutils.jar needs Java 1.6. There is a link on the first post to a version that will run on older versions of Java.

Make sure you are using this plugin with the default STV and not with the SageMC STV.

Missing Auto Compress Option

I am having trouble using this plugin. I seem to import the auto compress fine but I don' t see the "Enable Compression" option under the Customize section of the detailed setup therefore I don't see it in favorites. What am I doing wrong? Is there another piece to install first?

I followed these steps exactly:

Step 1. Unzip into SageTV maintaining the directories. (The df_sageutils.jar from the zip file needs to be in the JARS directory)
Step 2. Restart Sage so it will pick up the jar.
Step 3. Load the Auto Compress Favorites import
Step 4. Restart Sage to start the Auto Compress process.
