could you make this instead of an stvi, be a simple class that the server can run, in the properties file (like the webserver), and just have UI, for controlling the options?

The reason is that some of us have a service, and do not run the client all the time, and this would be a good way to run it on the server.

what do u think?

Great idea!
I'm using service mode on my server too, so I'll second this request!

Simple class is deep in oxymoron territory for me.

Possible download problem

Thank you for a very useful plugin. Unfortunately...

I have downloaded all 4 versions, files ending in -v10, -v11, -v12, and the current -v13, but have received the exact same file, of 21,210 bytes containing Auto_Compress.stvi dated Jan 26 2007. I've cleared my browser cache, and tried using both Firefox and Internet Explorer. All other plugin downloads seem to be fine. Would it be possible for you to check your upload procedure, or at least try the 'Download Here' link, and verify it is working correctly?

If the download link is fine, perhaps someone could give me a hint as to what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks,
Rob

Rob, You're right. That's bizarre, because I did test the download after uploading 1.3. I've re-uploaded and it's back to the 1.3 version again.

John,

I've been out of town and just got back. Thanks much for this! I'll give it a try in about a week. Right now RL is getting in the way...

Thanks for the great plugin! Would it be possible for you to provide in the setup options the ability to set the defaults for all the options that otherwise appear on favorites? If I want to set the recording quality for all my conversions I currently have to do it manually in every favorite.

I'm thinking of defaults in the options dialog, and overrides on a case-by-case basis in the favorites. Thanks again!

Another thought

So as I understand it, if I'm running SageTV as a service on one machine and a client on another, I need to either (1) also start SageTV on the server and minimize it or (2) map the exact Sage recordings drive to my client machine and be sure to leave SageTV running there. i.e. I need SageTV running as a non-service for it to do the compression.

I wonder if you and Steep could join forces and integrate Auto Compress into his Comskip Monitor. Comskip Monitor could be turned into a general Monitor Service, and the Comskip and Auto Compress parts turned into plugins. That is, convert Comskip Monitor's service part into a general run-the-following-app-whenever-I-see-a-file-like-this Windows service. So then we could tell this new driver to run comskip followed by auto compress when it sees a new .mpg.

Later if someone comes out with some new task that needs to be run as a service under certain conditions, they can just program a new plugin to the API and go. It's probably a bit of programming... I would help if I wasn't frying my own fish elsewhere.

John,

In the area where you set the defaults customized settings can you add wait for comskip there too?

Also 1 more thing does it wait for the TXT or EDL or either one.

If you are running as a service, it does need the server client running, although it will run if the client is sleeping or minimized.

The whole service issue is quite complex as there is a lot of interaction between the STV and the "backend" process. The majority of this is a port of what is in SageMC and they both use the same backend, which means that you have the ability to switch between STVs without losing function. I like that.

You could do most of what you are talking about with Dirmon

Yeah, I realized that after I posted. After futzing with DirMon and comskip months ago I gave up. Only recently have I tried out Comskip Monitor.
