Question Splicing a Hauppauge IR Receiver cable

My Hauppauge PVR-150 card came with an IR receiver cable that lets the remote nicely control SageTV. My problem is that the length of the receiver part of the cable is too short for my needs. I need it to be about 2-3 feet longer.

I actually purchased two PVR-150 cards, and I have an extra cable, so I was thinking of just splicing in some extra cable to lengthen it. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Does anyone see a problem with doing this?

Alternately, does anyone know if there are any longer IR receiver cables available for purchase?

Isn't that cable just a 1/8" mono plug? Even if it's stereo, you can just get a headphone extension cable from somewhere like Radioshack, should work fine.

Why not just get an extension cable from RatShack with 1/8 inch male and female ends?

Like this 6 foot one?

Hi,
I spliced in some wire I had laying around 2 years ago and it works great. Mine was also 2-3 feet too short.
