R5000 & Sage problem
I am having problems getting Sage to recognize my R5000. The R5000 is in a Dish 211. I down loaded the R5000HD software from Nextcom, loaded the driver, setup the Sage network encoder with port 7070. Made the changes in the properties file ( which aren't very clear and specific) Removed the VBox capture title in the file and put DTC100-1000254C. The file I have doesnot have the second host file as indicated and no file to put the Dish 211 name. Beside I don't know the name and serialnumber for the 211.
Anyway, after all this, when I start Sage, no Dish 211 to setup!!! Wrote Nextcom and they said they couldn't help me with Sage. To come here. PLEASE HELP!!!!! Total Newbie!!!! |

You've installed the Sage-specific version of the R5000 software, right? Not the regular version? And the R5000 app is running and connected to the device when you try to configure Sage?
If you're running SageTV as a service, you may have to restart the service to get it to notice the R5000 device after setting up the R5000 software. (And of course you have to stop the service before editing the properties file.) If none of that works, post the relevent section of your properties file and maybe someone can tell you what's wrong with it.

I installed the sage specific software for the R5000. Now I realize my R5000 is the problem. It is not getting any video from my Dish211. I can record a file with the 5000 software and when I play it back, black screen. I emailed nextcom, but no help yet.
Thanks for the help |

Please keep us informed. I'm "hiding" money now to have the R5000 mod done in a month or so, but for $600 I like to see better customer support and not be told "couldn't help you" go somewhere else.

It looks like you copied the settings from some other device on your system instead of from the R5000 SageTV setup instructions. Was there some particular reason you did this? There are some significant differences between what you have and what the R5000 folks recommend. Try making yours look exactly like theirs (except for the video_capture_device_name) and see if that works any better.

I'm still not clear on why you don't just copy and paste the exact lines from the R5000 site. For a single R5000 connected directly to your SageTV server, with the R5000 software running on port 6969, the only thing you should need to change in their sample properties is the device name to the right of the = in video_capture_device_name. For one R5000 device, just copy the first boxed set of property lines (the ones numbered 12346). The second set (the 12347 properties) would be for a second R5000 device (which you don't have, correct?).
One obvious problem with your property file is that you've used the same encoder ID (the 196611031 number) for two different devices. This is bad. As explained in the R5000 instructions, each device must have a unique ID. Just use the 12346 ID from the R5000 sample properties. Do you have a backup of your properties file from before you began your R5000 adventure? If so, your best bet at this point is probably to restore the encoder properties from that backup and then make your R5000 changes to that, instead of trying to untangle what you've got now.

Greg, sorry for my being so stupid! The instructions aren't very clear. I assumed I just changed the lines in red no changing the first numbers. I will cut and paste the entire first encoder file and put in my 211. After first reloading the original properties file. Hope this works!!

Just an FYI.
After I cut and pasted the properties files (as your about to do), I could not get it to work. Someone suggested I change the port (in both the R5000 app and in the sage properties files) from 6969 to 6968. After changing the port it worked like a charm. I have no idea why 6969 does not work for some people, but I wanted to put this out there in case it does not work after you cut and paste with port 6969. Good Luck. |

Just cut and pasted the property files and went straight to the Sage main menu. Thought I had it!! Went to live TV, black screen. Changed port from 6969 to 6968 in both properties file and R5000. Still black screen!!!!! Any way to go back to the original property file and start over. Thought I could use the backup, but no. Anyone got a copy of the original?? Version 6

Check your Sage directory for property file backups. The Sage installer makes one automatically every time you upgrade to a newer version. Look for filenames of the form Sage.properties.SageTV VX.X.XX.XXX and pick the most recent one from before you started messing with the R5000.
It's better to use a backup of your own properties file rather than someone else's since there's stuff in there specific to your system. All you should really need from the backup are the encoder properties.

Hang in there.
You'll know when you've got the proper connection because when you start SageTV, the status message at the bottom of the R5000 app will change from "SageTV: Waiting for connection on port xxxx" to "Ping from SageTV Client". |

It's a text file, just like your regular properties file. Just open it up in Notepad or whatever.

I am making progress!! Got original properties file cut and pasted R5000 property lines. Still get no ping from sage. Tried 6968, 6969 7070 port. Changed port setting in property files and in R5000 software still a black screen, no video!!! Could something be blocking the port???

progress update. When I start sagetv with R5000 software running. Started with port 6969 in properties file and R5000. Started Sage, checked video setup, it showed Dish-211 100383D 127.0.0.1/7070 usb null. Went back and check my properties file and sage changed it to 7070. Went and change R5000 to 7070, still no vid!!!
What am I doing wrong??????????????? |

You may also want to double check that the ip address for the machine that Sage is running on is really 127.0.0.1. The easiest way I know of to confirm it is to open a dos window and issue the command "ipconfig". |

Did ipconfig, the only ip address that came up was the network ip which is 192.168.0.101. I changed that in the properties file and got a ping from sage in the R5000 program. Still no video. I can get no ping from sage on 127.0.0.1 which is what I was originally using, however in DOS I can get a ping from 127.0.0.1. I have turned off all firewalls.
This is getting very frustrating!!!!! |
