Linux Edition and Media Extender
Hey,
I'm posting this as a last resort ... _ _ _ ... This morning I was so happy, breaking the shackles of Windows and moving to SageTV Linux Edition. The installation of Sage 6.0.x went great, I was up and running in under an hour with Ubuntu 6.10, and watching TV. If it could only be that simple. I can't get my Sage Media Extender (MediaMVP) to work. It says "Contacting Servers" then after a few seconds it goes to "Failed to locate GUI Server". I know the MediaMVP works just fine, in fact I have SageTV for Windows still running and I can connect to it and watch it without issues. - I've restarted several times (both the linux box, router and switch). - I've assigned static DHCP leases to the Linux server and MediaMVP. - I can connect to the Linux server with PlaceShifter from my laptop and my other computer. - I have many "Received mvp packet" lines in my sagetv_0.txt - I've actually upgraded SageTV Server (and client) to SageTV 6.1 beta. I can't think of anything else to do? This is happening in both SageTV 6 and 6.1. I was going to file a support ticket, but I thought maybe someone here could say "do this" and it would work. I'm outta idea's. BTW, besides this 1 annoying problem... I absolutely love SageTv 6.1... fantastic! I like where you're going with the Network backup, HTTP server, YouTube... nice job! Best Regards, Matt Simpson |

Is the "Media Extender and Placeshifter Server" option enabled on both your Linux and Windows systems, and are both servers running at the same time? If so, try having only 1 extender server enabled. That's my only guess.

I thought I should reply to this, since I finally figured out what the problem was. I figured out purely by accident.
Stop Sagetv: /opt/sagetv/server/stopsage Open: /opt/sagetv/server/Sage.properties Find: miniserver/forced_server_ip= Put your server's IP address in (mine is 192.168.1.100): miniserver/forced_server_ip=192.168.1.100 Also make sure your gateway is correct below that: miniserver/forced_server_ip=192.168.1.100 miniserver/gateway=192.168.1.1 Start Sage: /opt/sagetv/server/startsage That did it for me... I have no idea why this needed to be here or how it didn't get set initially... either way. I have SageTV v6.1.3RC1 up and running now perfectly on my Ubuntu box now. Nice job on it guys. Do you have a DHCP server on your network?

Matt,
Thanks for posting your answer. I was, of course, quite disappointed after receiving my brand spanking new Media Extender only to have it not work for me. Your properties mods did the trick for me. Since you manually set your servers IP address are you now using a static IP? Erik |

Matt mentioned in the OP that he is doing static DHCP leases. It is a good idea to have your Sage Server's IP address staticly set, either via a static DHCP lease or actually setting it staticly in the server. Reasons include, port mappings on your router to access the placeshifter services, and if you set your client to autoconnect to the server, it saves the IP addres in your .properties file, not the server's name.
