Setting up MVP with software DHCP help

I want to setup a software DHCP server on my Sage server, so that I can run a crossover from my server to my MVP. I have no idea, however, what values need to be entered into the program. This is the program I've downloaded to use. http://perso.orange.fr/philippe.joun..._download.html
I read some threads where people used this and it worked. I hope that someone can tell me what to put into the fields. The help file on with the program doesn't help too much. I've also hooked up a 5 port switch as well as a netgear wireless router (wired from server to MVP) and I can't get the MVP to pick up the sage server. It picks up on the MVP software though.

On TFTPD32 I'm assuming I would select DHCP server
IP Pool starting address: I found this value in a thread 192.123.1.1
Size of pool: I figured I'd put 1 since I only have one thing connecting to it.
Boot File: Maybe mvp.bin
wins/dns server: I have no Idea
Default router: No Idea
Mask: I have my server's subnet mask if that's what goes there.
Domain Name: no idea
additional option: no idea

Edit: I went back to trying to use a switch or another router, but I can't get the MVP to find the sage server. The router has DHCP. I'm wondering if I need to set it up a certain way online first, and then hook it up to the Server and MVP. All I tried to do was plug and play.

I am using that program as my DHCP server. I don't know where you got the 192.123.1.1 IP number from. I would have expected it to be 192.168.0.1. I use the 192.123.1.1 - 192.123.1.114 as static addresses, use help , then select FAQ and look at Can the DHCP server assign static IP for information about them if you want to use static address. I use 192.168.0.115 as IP starting adress and 100 for size of pool. Boot File is not needed if only using as DHCP server. The mask would be subnet mask 255.255.255.0 for a standard class c network. The Domain Name can probably be left blank but I set it to what I call my network, something like xxxx.net. The Additional Option can also be left at 0.
Under settings you do want to select DHCP Server and probably Use TFpd32 only on this interface 192.168.0.1

This should get you going.

I attached a printscreen of my settings. The MVP is plugged dirctly into my HTPC/Server via the wired lan ports on both and the MVP still doesn't find the server nor an IP address using these settings. My HTPC connects wirelessly to the internet via another wireless router. Do I need to compensate somehow for this. I think the server interface was automatically filled in, but I'm not sure. Do I need to make that address match something in particular?

Your attached document is too small to be readable. What IP address are you trying to use? On your server start a command prompt window and do an arp -a command. It should show an Interface number like:
Interface: 192.168.0.1 --- 0x2

That is the number you should be using.

Edit: just figured out how to enlarge your document. It looks like the Server Interface number may be incorrect. Try 192.168.1.1 not the 100 you currently have.

I can't change those numbers. It seems the program may be automatically pulling the server interface from somewhere. Just to add to the information bank, when I had the Hauppauge software the MVP saw my pc as HTPC with IP address 169.254.193.105. Don't know if that means anything to you guys. I must not be entering something correctly in the command prompt because the command I entered is not recognized. I entered "arp -a" (quotes not included) Thanks for the help so far.

I've attached a screenshot of my IP stuff. When it comes to this stuff I'm not too tech savy. Hoping this info isn't compromising my internet security. I would know. Maybe you guys could use this info and tell me how to fill in the DHCP server software blanks, so that it will work. I tried the arp -a thing again and got something this time.

You have two network devices in your system a wired one and a wireless one. They both have the same IP address which is a problem by itself unless only one is active. Which one are you trying to get to work with your MVP? Have you run the network wizard to setup your network? Are you aware that windows has a built in DHCP server that you could use?
I suggest you shutdown the tftpd32 program. Then run the network wizard for the device you are trying to use. Then try the MVP to see if it gets an IP number. the arp -a command would show you the devices that have an IP number. The physical address is the mac address that should be printed on the MVP. If you do not see it, then start the tftpd32 program and try the MVP again. I think the basic problem at this point is that you have not properly configured your network. The subnet mask for your lan is not correct, it is a class B mask not the Class C as expected. It should be the same as the wireless.

Well, after a whole lot of trial and error I finally got it working.
I re-ran the network setup and got one where all the numbers resembled what you have been pointing out. The attached printscreen is for anyone who may later use this thread for reference. It shows all my addresses...etc.

It is great that you got it working, however I do not believe it is working the way you think it is. I think it will work fine for you as long as you do not use the wireless connection. I am posting this follow-up to clarify what I believe is happening with your setup.
The server has 2 network devices and is currently configured as 2 different networks. The wired network is 192.168.0.XX and the wireless network is 192.168.1.XX. This thread is only concerned with the wired network since the original post stated he was using a crossover connection. The way the Tftpd32 program is currently configured it it only concerned with the wireless network which probably makes it inactive for now. If it was active it would probably cause problems because the IP pool is given a IP starting number for the wired network. I suspect when the network configuration wizard was run it start the DHCP server that is built into the OS and that is what provided the IP number to the MVP. This is just my theory of what happened since I do not see any way the Tftpd32 program could be working properly with the current information.

I'm using my wireless connection to use the internet and it's working fine. I uninstalled TFTP32 and my MVP still gets its IP address, so I guess it is the OS doing the DHCP thing. All-in-all, as long as works I'm good with it.
