I "fixed" the nVidia Decoder icon not showing up problem!
I had the problem where after I upgraded to Sage version 5 and upgraded my Nvidia decoders to .196, they were no longer working. The decoder icon wouldn't come up even when I had Sage set to default for the renderer. This puzzled me because everyone here was saying that if you chose default then the icon would show up properly if the nVidia decoders were the last decoders installed(default).
I remembered that the OEM upgrade to the .196 decoders did not allow me to install without having the older version already on the computer. I thought that perhaps when the upgrade was installed, something didn't get registered properly even though the decoder checkup utility from MS said that it was. Then I saw this post: Quote:
I tried upgrading to the .196 version from the .185 version and it hosed everything up again. That's why I think the .196 version's installer has some kind of problem. Save yourself some time and don't install .196 over the .185 if you started out with the OEM version of the decoders. As a side note: Running dvdupgrd /detect at the command line still shows the stvmcdsmpeg.ax MainConcept AG as the default decoder but the Nvidia ones work anyway. On to how I got the icon to display even though "Nvidia Video Decoder" is chosen: I changed both the "Audio Renderer" & "MPEG2 Audio Decoder Filter" options to something other than 'default'. In my case, I chose Direct Sound Sound Blaster XFi for the renderer and AC3 as the audio decoder. Presto! The icon comes up no problem. I further tested with each setting available and found that as long as 'default' was not chosen for either of those values, the icon would display. Weird, I know... The only caveat is that right clicking on the icon and clicking properties will NOT open the properties window for the decoder. In order for that to work you have to set it back to default or choose the Post Processor option. For me though, the main reason for the icon on a day to day basis is to know that the decoder is properly running. For me, this 'fix' fits the bill for that. If you (anyone reading this thread) happen to also have the icon disappearing issue and don't mind trying out my idea, I'd be curious to know if it worked for you as well. Thanks to everyone who contributes on this forum...its a great resource to scour for Sage issue answers! |
