Beginning of show missing...

So twice now for some reason the first 5-10 minutes of a show shows up red on Sage's bar for no apparent reason. Checking the file with other players (WMP) the beginning is truly missing and the file size is slightly less than hour long show. The first time was about 2 weeks ago and the second time last night. Two different stations. Sage was running and the show showed as scheduled. Nothing was scheduled before either show, they both started at 8:00AM.

Anyone else experiance this?

I experienced the exact same thing last night on my recording of American Idol. All my other recordings last night were ok.

You need to enable logging and then next time it happens you can look at the logs and see why it failed. Perhaps it failed to tune the first time for some reason?

Look for error messages in the log at the scheduled start time.

I'd also check you haven't managed to configure negative values for padding

What is the recording quality & tuner used for those recordings?

You may need to set seeker/fast_mux_switch=false in the sage.properties file.

There is a known problem that is supposed to be fixed in the next release. If the EPG update occurs close to the time that a recording is start can cause problems. I lost the first 58 minutes of a 90 minute show because of this bug.

I noticed this before, once I actually saw Sage blast the IR codes at 5 minutes past the hour. At the time it was not recording anything. I checked the time and it was OK, the show was scheduled on the hour. I did not have this happen again.

What does that property do exactly? The recordings have all been high definition on hvr-1600 which is set to max quality, though i'm told that setting has no effect for digital tuning. I'll turn on logging and check when EPG updates occur. The first time it occured the show was on at 10PM and this time the show was on at 8PM. I have no padding set and the time lost seems to be randomly.

Thanks for all your help!

Checking into this issue more, I can see that the file was created 5 min 6 sec later, at 8:05:06 instead of 8:00. I had another high def recording start on the other hvr-1600 at 8, ontime. Nothing was recorded before either show. Tonight I recorded a ton of things without this issue...

I've had this occur to several recordings where the first 5 minutes were missing in each instance (generally with American Idol).

I haven't had a repeat of this since last time, only thing I did was move the antenna to get a stronger signal. I think the tuner could not tune that channel for some reason, though the file was created 5 min later. Not sure if sage creates file immediately or waits for successful tune.

Still wondering what the below property does:

seeker/fast_mux_switch=false

My guess is it makes tuning take longer, like in source setup. In source setup it takes much longer to get channel with percent displayed then when just using normal sage. My though is that it I set above property, the times would be similar...
