HVR-1600 Capture Device?

Just installed a 1600.. and at the select video capture device... I'm kind of confused as to which on to pick.

WinTV 418 TS Capture or...
WinTV 418 Video Capture (and select Digital Tuner)?

I'm having troubles getting a signal at all... on either one I pick but I want to make sure I'm on the correct tuner before I start trouble shooting.

Thanks!!

Mike

I am just on my way out to get one of these so am wondering if you were able to solve this?

I will use mine for OTA HD using a silver sensor antenna (heard I could get up to 10 channels in the Toronto, Canada area).

No haven't had any luck at all. I'm less than 3 miles away from my HD towers, and signals has never been an issue for me here. I'm beginning to wonder if the card is toast! I've moved it to another machine for testing... different MB/chipset/proc everything and using the wintv apps I'm running into the same things. No ATSC channels and reboots when trying to use the analog.

I'm waiting to hear back from Hauppauge now... they are a M-F bunch unfortunately!

Darn, just installed it and lost the remote function from my 250 card. Actually lost that card altogether. I had my set top box on svideo on it and now its gone.

Now to spend hours trying to trouble shoot it.

That sounds like an IRQ conflict... Might want to check that out! All my tuners worked after my install just couldn't get anything with the 1600. I'm waiting to hear from Hauppauge.... I'm thinking I got an RMA situation here. After that maybe everything will be ok. I'll keep the post up to date!

I'm using both the tuners- one for HD and the other for S-video off a DirectTV box without any problems.

I don't recollect how I set it up- but I think the TS- is the digital tuner/OTA HD and the Video Capture is the second SD tuner (Tuner, S-Vid etc).

As for the remotes, I've never had any luck with the Hauppauge remotes ever since I installed a 250 and 150. I did not spend too much time on it since I use a Keyspan remote on it anyway- but I think the loss of remote connectivity is a common bug - I could be wrong here .

Hope this helps.

Remember this card can do analog and digital at the same time. So you'll need to set it up as two tuners. I selected the Analog tuner for the 418 Video Capture and used the TS capture for the digital and mine works fine for analog and digital recording.

However I never did have much luck getting the preview window to work properly during the tuner setup. Analog was OK but the digital just didn't like to work. However after the setup everything works fine, could just be a glitch in the setup or something.

Good luck.

Yeah... I know its two tuners and neither will tune ANYTHING. I'm irritated at hauppauge support at this point... I keep getting the run around to install this do that... no do it this way. I have no doubt the card is toast.

I keep trying to explain to them... this is my 8th Hauppauge card... I know what to do with the hcwclear program.. and I've tried it in 3 different machines with 3 different driver version, and I'm less than 3 miles away from my HD transmitter, and the analog side doesn't work either.

I going to start demanding an RMA or something at this point... I've wasted about 4 evenings trying to make it all work!

Thanks for the replies!

Ahhhh.....so are you saying that can I use a 1600 (along with my existing 150) to simultaneously record analog cable and the “free” digital cable HD channels and continue using the 150 via S Video from the box for the analog/digital (non HD) cable channels?

Also, if I don't care about dual analog tuners could I use the 1600 for analog/digital cable via S Video from the box and simultaneously
“free” digital cable HD channels?

This card will show up and a ANALOG/ATSC/QAM tuner in your Hardware Manager... but my understanding is its ATSC (over the air HD) only.... Not a QAM cable tuner.

Thats if you can get it to work, and if not you don't get the run around from tech support. Am I sounding bitter yet??

I finally demanded a RMA.. and tech support agreed.. told me to send in my name/addy and they would set it up... end of business today it will be two days since I sent that in... and now its the weekend and they are off for 2 days.. so it will be Monday at the earliest that I can get anything from them. After this I'm done with Hauppauge... maybe they are all this "busy", but there are other vendors around.

I just set two of these up in a new build. I extracted the Hauppauge CD download to the desktop and pointed the "Upgrade Driver" in Device Manager to the folder...that was it. In Sage I set up the 418 Video Capture #1 & #2 as TV Tuner...preview never works, skip past it. Works fine. When I add 8vsb OTA, I'll use the 418 TS entries.

Also, I own the program "ChrisTweak", and it see's the 1600's driver. You can adjust the Spatial and Temporal "Blur". HauppaugeTweaker may even work, but I haven't tried it yet.
