SageTV always on top

Hi

How do I make SageTV always to stay on top?
Sometimes stupid balloon messages, or other things in Windows make Sage minimize.

That works against the "wife-acceptance-factor"

Many thanks!

I think you will need a 3rd party app that forces a defined window to stay on top. Years ago I used a freeware program called WinonTop that worked nicely. However, that was with Windows 2000 I believe and am not sure if it works on XP or Vista. Do a google search for winontop or a generic search for "Always on Top" Window freeware.

If you enable FSE and disable the (I can't remember the exact property) release fse on focus lost property, no app will be able to come up in front of Sage.

FSE is under Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Advanced

I believe it stands for Full Screen Exclusive.

FSE = Fullscreen Exclusive Mode, it's a way of doing rendering that "takes over" your video card, basically the way D3D games work.

This has been a pain for me. I would like Sage to be on top only when in FSE. When it returns to a window from FSE mode I would like Sage to act normally. Instead Sage remains in always on top mode. I can not get any other program to be on top until I restart Sage.

Anyone know how to fix this?

FSE means Full Screen Exclusive. As long as it is in this mode nothing can take over the screen. As far as I know. Ergo-Sage will always be on top in this mode. I belive Sage will minimize when accessing another app. I'm not using this mode so I may be off here.

This occasionally happens to me, but only when sage switches out of FSE because it has lost focus. If I manually switch out of FSE, then I have no problems. A restart resolves it.

Hi
Thanks for your answers.

I had the FSE enabled.

Isn't FSE for video playback?

My problem isn't that Sage minimize while playing video, the problem is that it minimize when idle. When you turn on the TV you see the windows desktop instead of the Sage interface.

FSE is a mode an application can be in to allow exclusive access to video cards for performance. Games often use it. It *helps* video playback in VMR9.

Somethig else (scheduled or background task) is taking focus from sage. Default behaviour is to minimise -- there is a property to change it.
