Got sick of waiting for HD extenders. Went back to MCE and..

MCE SUCKS!

What was I even thinking. Slow menus, no xvid/divx support wiht xbox 360 unless you transcode which is slow as hell. NO rewind, no ffw.
Digital rights
No placeshifter
No dvd playing from HD using the 360
MSN remote record? What a stupid website, nothing compared to sage web

Man, I am going back to sage for sure. Just hurry up and get me an HD extender or two

Mo!

I found your title funny. Sick of waiting? You joined the forum in April 2007, the beginning of Q2 (the reported release timeframe from SageTV) and the end of Q2 isn't even here. Have some patience and a bucket of

Enjoy the show!

Well I joined Mar-2004, can I be a little impatient???

Seriously though, does anybody have an idea of how much the HD extenders will be? just a ballpark like 200-400?

Also, will the extender playback all H.264 videos without the need for transcoding or will it only be certain bitrates and resolutions?

While I agree that's important too, I'd be happy with any device right now that outputs true HD resolutions. If I need more horsepower on the back end, I'll build it!

Well for me... I have alot of imported videos that have low bitrates and SD resolution but are H.264 encoded to save space. My Sage Server is typically encoding all the time so I do not want to run into a bottleneck with an HD extender that needs the server to transcode a video just because the resolution doesn't fall into a certain category.

<$200 according to the info from CES.

Current best guess is it's based on one of Sigma's recent chips with built in HD MPEG-2, H.264, and VC-1 decoding.

Under 200 is cool... Is there any place I could go to see what the expected specs are for it?

From the pictures of the unit shown at CES, the same OEM that will be making the HD Extender, makes a very similar model with a DVD drive.

If the "production" extender is the same model as the one shown at CES, if it's the same OEM, or if said "similar model" with DVD drive becomes another extender, only the folks at Sage know.

I think it's early in the "Congrats on the HD extender" thread.

www.snazio.com

Look for the "Digital Home Cinema HD" product line. There are three models, I *think* Sage showed the model without a DVD player included. (The "Net Cinema HD")

Wow, that thing looks cool. I definately like the one with the built in dvd player. Just imagine those around your house. Wifey factor would be easy to deal with too!

Do you guys think that the HD extenders are a reality or are they a probability in terms of actually coming out?

Mo!
