embedded web server??

I know these options showed up in the last release, but I never saw any comments on what they did or how to use them.

I'm curious about:
* ftp server
* windows file server
* network file server
* web server
* network file backup

anyone have any ideas?

Where are these options you talk about? What "last release"?

Haven't seen any mention of Sage embedded webservers in the Windows releases and haven't noticed anything in the sage.properties files.

The only webserver I know about is nielm's webserver addon.

I run the Linux version. I have seen the options since the first v6 release.

Under Detailed Settings, there is a category called, "Server" where you can enable the placeshifting and MVP features as well as these other servers I mentioned.

Looks like Sage has created a view scripts to update the startup scripts of the OS to start those "services". You probably know what they do?

Linux is a server OS by nature, and Sage offering this feature - is simply being nice.

ok, so using sage to control startup services makes sense especially if this is a dedicated sage box; makes it easier to setup and use for non-linux folk and maybe easier to incorporate into an OEM device.

I run the user-written Sage Webserver app.
Does the webserver setting in Sage make this obsolete?
If I enable that, what page shows up when I connect via http?
Can you configure the webserver via sage (eg, setup a different listening port, etc)?

I haven't enabled it to see what happens yet because I'm afraid of screwing up the existing webserver - I was hoping to be able to read about it in a manual, but so far, I can't find any reference to it.

I turned it on, but you go out of the menu and go back in and find it disabled. However, I don't have a webserver that I installed on the box. I was assuming it had one built in. My linux server is my test server..
