MVP debugging
I just got an MVP and have it working with my sage server running latest beta.
I decided that my current server is underpowered to encode on the fly to the MVP. I decided to try it with a faster server. I did a clean install of XP and updates and installed the same version of sage and java as are on my production server. Set up the firewall with the same exceptions. I then shut down my production server and changed all router forwarding to the test server IP., started up Sage and configured it, enabled the sage server and place-shifter server and restarted sage (I do not run it as a service). The MVP finds the sage server, loads the application but hangs on the starting application screen. Place-shifter also finds the server but hangs on the connecting screen. I have debug logs for the unsuccessful boot on the test server and one for a successful boot on my production server. I have tried with firewall off, setting the server as the DMZ IP in the router. Nothing seems to work. I am hoping someone will see something in the logs to steer me in the right direction so I can test this before my trial runs out on the test server. |

So with no answers from here, I decided to do some more troubleshooting.
I took another computer and reformatted the drive and installed XP, all the windows updates, Java 6.1.1, and the sage beta. (Same as the previous test server but this one is all different hardware. Well it acted the same way, The MVP and place-shifter both fail to finish the connection process.. So I decided to uninstall the sage beta and install the last release version. Surprise.... now place-shifter and MVP work. But they work with the beta on my production server? So I decided to install the beta over the release version on my now working test server. But with the beta installed the place-shifter and MVP fail to finish the connection. Uninstall the beta and reinstall the release version and all works again. Tried the same on my test server from yesterday with the same results. (works with the release version but not the beta) So why will the MVP work with the beta on my production server but not the other 2 servers. The only difference is that my production server is licensed and has licenses for the MVP and place-shifter. It also has video sources configured. The test servers were both trial versions with no licenses and no video sources. Does any of this explain why the MVP and place-shifter will connect to the licensed beta but not the trial beta? Should I try moving my licenses temporarily to the test server and then try the beta? Suggestions are more than welcome. |
