I always recommend the USB-UIRT with a Logitech Harmony remote.

![]() I have a Harmony 688 and USB-UIRT. I love it and WAF is very high. In fact, even my mother-in-law was quickly able to figure things out. This is a woman who has to call my wife for instructions whenever she wants to watch a DVD at her own house. Tim |

I've got two MCE remotes (newer versions with TV Power buttons on them) and have no problems at all.

There are cheaper versions of the Harmony (eg. the 520 at USD 70). Functionality is more or less the same.

The best bang for the buck is the MS MCE remote and receiver combo. ~$45.
It might be easier to suggest something if you provide more info about the setup. PC? How many tuners? Any set top boxes? B |

The IR Receiver that I have for both remotes also includes 2 IR blasters (or whatever you want to call them).

Love my mx-800 from universal remote. mx-500 is a cheaper alternative. Its got the best feel in hand with real buttons that I know. Combine it with USB-UIRT.

I agree! Start with this, then at a later time you can upgrade to a Harmony. The Harmony remotes have these codes so its basicaly plug and play. |

I've been using a Streamzap with SageTV for years now and had great luck with it. I also use it to control PowerDVD and some other PC applications on the HTPC with good luck. I like the Harmony remotes but for the price I've had really good luck with the StreamZap.
Just my 2 cents. -Nyle |

Used the Streamzap for a while and it was okay till it just died one day. Tried the Hauppauge that came with my HVR-1600 and it was also okay, but still didn't have all the functionality I wanted. Settled on the MS MCE (bought on ebay) and haven't looked back.

There are a few places right now that have the MCE remote for about $30 shipped. Couple this with a universal remote control (R5G) for about $20 from Circuit City & you have a nice basic setup for pretty cheap.

I second that. After using an RF remote, I can't see going back to IR. I wish that there were more RF options out there filling the price gap between the FF and things like the Harmony. I would like a few more buttons on the FF, but then I use it for more than just controlling Sage--like turning the TV and receiver on and off, and switching inputs on them so the kids can just press one button to go between playing the Wii and watching TV.

Harmony 890 - IR and RF. Setup can be time-consuming and even confusing, but it just works great.

I've had my Harmony 520 for ages and I love the thing. The initial setup was pretty daunting. But once you get the hang of it, it's extremely powerful. Oh and I have a Keyspan IR receiver, only because I already had it for awhile. If I didn't have it, I probably would have gone with a USB-UIRT.
