What's the trick to getting it to work in QAM mode with 6.3 Sage? Should it just pick it up when you've loaded the drivers, do you need the QAM 2.0.0.6 software installed, what?

The Analog tuner works great, better picture than my Blackbird cards by far (I think I'm going to end up using 2 of these and dropping the old BB's, especially if I can get QAM working on it via Vista and a Network encoder).

For Vista all you need is the current released Avermedia drivers. I think I had the best luck with the .18, but I didn't try the betas available for Vista.

I sort of got it working last night, but it only found about 7 channels. My HDHR finds alot more than that though. I may try the latest .21 drivers and see how they work. One of my problems is I can't seem to figure out how to enter a channel manually and have it work. Any tips there?

you mention .21 drivers - where did you see these? I just checked the website (http://www.aver.com/mpd/support/download/combopcie.html) and they still list .19.

I'm interested in upgrading because I'm having a couple minor issues with the STB input (I have DirecTV). About once a week, a show won't be watchable because the recording is totally pixelated. At first I thought it was the DirecTV STB but I don't think it is... I think it's the M780. Anybody else see this issue?

Follow the directions here, they are up on aver's ftp site, not directly off the webpage... They ARE beta drivers however...

I am still awaiting a response from Qian about Clear QAM with XP. I sent him all the info for the beta drivers, but he came down with some sort of eye sickness and needed time to recover. Hopefully he has recovered by now.

How the heck do you enter a channel manually? Every time I try, it seems to add, but it won't work... Must not be holding my mouth right. Also, how do I get them mapped to the correct entries in my guide??

UPDATE:
I finally got a bit more time to play with the m780 card on XP.

With AverMedia Center the card WILL TUNE ClearQAM channels. Although, it doesn't tune all the channels my TV does.

Sage still can not tune anything.

kricker, thanks for all your hard work.

I can also view Clear QAM using AverMedia Center on Win XP 64-bit. I really wish I could have all the functionality of Sage though. Is there any hope at this point?

Hey, here is a new development that is interesting. He notes that he used the Vista Drivers for the A180 with Windows XP to get this functionality. It is entirely possible that someone on XP could use the Vista drivers, which are known to support QAM, in the same manner that he did.

It looks like he did that for a 32bit OS. I tried following that link, and it won't launch in my 64bit WinXP

just noticed that they uploaded new drivers recently. Hopefully they might make my SageTV + M780 + WinXP 64-bit combo play nicely finally!

Okay. Things worked a bit better but not perfect. I followed this post. When I did a channel scan I got a few channels to show up. Not as many as my TV shows, but a few. But, as I was setting up the channels and re-mapping them in channel set-up they quit displaying. Restarting Sage had no effect. They all showed a signal of 0% when before they were at 90%. I'll play again later tonight.

I am having pretty good success with the m780 and QAM with the latest beta of Sage and Avermedia beta drivers .26. There are still a few things to iron out, but at least I can now tune and record HD channels.

The biggest quirk at the moment is Sage causes some sort of error when tuning an HD channel after resuming from standby. The PC simply reboots. The weird thing is it doesn't always happen. The other issue is some of my channels are skipped during a scan, but I was able to add them manually.

That's all for now. I just wanted to let other m780 owners know in case they wanted to try.

I may end up attempting to use mine as OTA cards, as I'm in the process of dropping Charter Cable (that is IF the installer can get the dish mounted with decent signal for all 5 LNB's, he's the 2nd one here in a week , God I hate trees, lol). May end up just pulling them out and dropping in another tuner to replace them if I can't get any OTA signal.

I use them for OTA and the cards work great - I've had no issues.
