SageTV linux unable to keep settings, no dvd playback
Hello,
Running Sagetv on Ubuntu 7.04 with the lastest kernal, and the newest ATI drivers. I just put the box together in hopes that the transation to the sagetv would be fast but running into a few small issues. I was just wondering if anyone has ideas why my settings I tell the Sagetv Client do not save. When I tell it what folders, weather, sources, etc. The next time I start the application I have to do it all over again, which is very difficult as it takes almost a hour to remap the folders? Also I have no dvd menu or ability to burn to dvd which I though the Linux version was supposed to have also? I hope this save issue can be looked into as I'm starting to feel the over cost of the product might have been a bad choice do the volume of issues. Any help? |

How are you starting the server process on ubuntu? The lost settings look like a permission problem. You can verify it is updating Sage.properties and clients/*.properties.
To burn dvds you will need to follow the instructions in this thread : http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23003 _Demo_ |

So i need to have both the server and the client running is that correct?

so then basically the linux placeshift client is not full, so there no such thing as a full client for Linux?
Also if I run the server and the client, I can't get a video preview it doesn't work just sits there and loads, but if I just run the client it works but doesn't save settings... |

Also I look at that forum about the dvd burning, but I still not very clear on what I should be looking for.
Also I don't see why it's such a big issue to have that option in Linux, sighs. |

You should enable debug logging in the Sage.properties (adding debug_logging=TRUE) and attach the sagetv_0.txt file after you have started server, run the client then stopped the server.

Warwon,
Let's start with the basics. Please list your hardware and kernel/distro information. If you want to go with Ubuntu, set it back up and we'll start there. It would also be helpful to know what you are trying to accomplish. Does your playback happen on the server? Will you be using another computer or MVPs? Don't forget to include tuner information and source description as well. Example: Server running Ubuntu 7.0.4 32-bit, Java 1.5.11, PVR-500, etc. Information on your shares would be helpful as well. The Linux client has no DVD playback capability.
(see FAQs: Linux client=placeshifter, placeshifter cannot play DVDs)

Well I can't afford to have this media center down this much, I ran through a number of ideas with my Linux guys, and the issues with booting Gentoo to Ubuntu are half-mine and half-Sage TV
I hope either to get a refund from the store for the order as this is nothing comparable to the Windows version, or get the key switch over to windows. I manage to recover one partition into a windows drive this afternoon, and I will be running tests to see if the 2 TB drives made it through this awful transition. Well we'll see what happens from here |

SageTV Linux Install
The Linux version is actually quite easy to setup if you have all your hardware sorted out prior to even beginning with SageTV. Good luck on the refund/license swap.
