SageTV can't play its own converted videos
I'm having a problem with the Convert function in Sage. I tried converting a 1080i show into the "MPEG4 HDTV". After the server has transcoded the file, I try to play it back in Sage. Sage shows a black screen and throws an error about no audio or some such nonsense. Video conversions do seem to work if I select a different format (MPEG4, Ipod, etc.) Any ideas?

I've been having problems with the converted programs too. I've had several different problems. one recording was perfect, another would only display a black screen. another recorded the first 20 minutes fine, then for the remainder the sound was like Alvin and the Chipmunks. I'm continuing to experiment to see is any format is more reliable. I certainly would not allow it to delete a recording and only have the converted show to watch, which kind of defeats the purpose. This is using the Sage player. Using directshow does not work at all.

I've been dealing with this myself. I've had decent results forcing dshow, setting the (cant remember exactly) always_use_dshow? property, and then installing haali media splitter, xvid, and coreavc or another H.264 codec. I also used graphedit and radlight filtermanager to confirm what codecs were running.
mainly though, its *stopping* sage from using the built in decoder. IMHO. Cory |

I've got divx and xvid installed, and using the dshow option had horrible results.

^^ I don't believe sage always properly uses the directshow filters. I'm pretty certain that for H.264 files, it wasn't using my installed filters until I set the always_use option in the properties file manually. YMMV of course
