Experience with URC RF30 Remote?
Anyone have experience with the Universal Remote Control RF30? I currently have a Firefly RF with Girder and it works exceptionally well, (at least after the Girder learning curve). However, when the HD extenders come out, I'm looking to get rid of the PC client. That means no more Firefly and Girder. I've been looking at the Harmony 890, but with two small kids, I'd rather get a less expensive remote. Plus, the Harmony 890 seems to be getting hard to find, so I'm not sure if they're being pulled.
Someone recommended one of the MX series from URC, but they're even more expensive than the Harmony. After poking around on the URC web site, though, I ran across the RF30 and the MRF100B RF receiver/blaster. It looks like just what I need (<$100 on Amazon for both, maybe less elsewhere). I haven't heard anything about this combination, though. Anyone use them?
Like I said, it looks like a good match. RF is a must, and I have six devices, which matches the MRF100B exactly. I want the kids to be able to press one button (e.g. Wii) and have the TV and receiver set their inputs to the correct values. Macros on the RF30 seem to support this. I want the volume keys to always talk to the receiver, and the "punch through" option appears to do this. Macros also let the power on and off buttons control both the TV and receiver. It can learn IR codes, so I can program it with the HD extender remote. Did I mention RF?
So, all-in-all it sounds like a good fit, but I'd like to hear from people who've actually used it. Sure, the variables on the MX series would be really cool to control power and the like, but it's not worth the extra $$ for me. Anyway, any comments on this product combination?
