opinion on videoredo please

Hi,

Perhaps this is not the right forum for this question, but I just bought sagetv and happened along videoredo the other day. I am playing with the trial version and am considering buying it. I'd mostly be editing the commercials out from files I make with sagetv. Have any of you tried this software out? Any problems with editing hdtv recordings? Are they good as far as support? No trojans or anything like that kind of thing right?

Thanks in advance.

worth every penny. haven't found anything faster at editing sd recordings and new version aims to be one stop shop for hd and dvd authoring too. My one support request (I wanted to run it in a RDP session) was answered quickly. And yes, you can run it in rdp as long as color is 16bit and higher and you have sound enabled.

An excellent program that is worth the price you pay for it. Very good support. Very active forum community. Stable. I have nothing but good things to say about it.

The only people I've ever heard complain are those who refuse to pay for ANY software. You know the type, they will spend thousands of dollars on the latest and greatest hardware and then moan about paying $29 for an essential piece of software.

I'm generally one of those people. But after trying everything under the sun, VideoRedo was the only program that would do what I want, and thats accurately edit an HDTV Mpeg stream and fix stream errors w/o having to re-encode the whole thing. Add in the ability for automation using vbs scripts and its a bargain.

If only it worked on h.264 streams...

VRD has confirmed they are working on adding mpeg4 support, but that to expect it to be a few months before being released. They are mostly concentrating on the TV Suite version right now, I think.

Like others, I think VRD is worth every penny. I've also upgraded to the TV Suite. And when they get avi support too, it will be really sweet. Right now I just make sure I do all my editing on the mpeg2 copy before I do conversions.

I tried and even bought several editing programs. None of them worked well. Then I found VideoReDo. I have used it for several years and had no reason to look for another program for editing. I have been having a lot of problems burning DVDs. Nero keeps closing in the middle of recoding. Other programs have poor video quality. I upgraded to VideoReDo TV Suite (I had to down load the latest beta to get the latest bug fixes) and now all my problems burning TV shows to DVD have gone away.

My biggest wish is that they add the editing of video or audio elementary streams.

I've been to their website, or at least I think it was thier website, and I cannot find what is TV Suite. Could someone post a link to the correct site please. Perhaps I went to a spoof site.

Thanks.

VideoReDo is a very good mpeg2 editor and inexpensive. I don't know how well it works for HDTV, since I only use it for SD recordings. I edit MPEG2 files with VideoReDo and when I need to burn DVDs I use TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6 to burn DVD. The editing quality of VideoReDo is far superior to TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6, which I purchased before VideoReDo.

One downside to VideoReDo is that it will not edit AVI files. There is no date when AVI files will be supported. I use VirtualDub to edit AVI files using "Direct Stream Copying" for video and audio. VirtualDub does not edit AVI files precisely.

I was offered an upgrade to the Suite version of VideoReDo, here is the link:
http://www.videoredo-newsletter.com/...letter3day.htm

I did not upgrade or try the new suite version, since the new features did not seem to worth the price. If I ran the trial version, maybe my opinion would change. DVD authoring should have already been included with the VideoReDo Plus.

Dave

Thanks for the link Dave

I was going to purchase VideoReDo Plus as soon as the funds made it to my paypal account, but looking at that link, I'd better wait and see what happens next. Of course, if you have any further input that would shed some light on what they are going to next, I'd appreciate it. I always seem to have bad timing when I buy things.

I will likely get crap from the rest of the group here, but I am a bit of a novice when it comes to the whole codec, video format, etc. thing. VideoRedo is GREAT! However, I was really disappointed when I did a bunch of captures off my family camcorder to find out that VideoRedo won't touch the AVI container or, if I understand things better now, the "DV" format. VideoRedo seems to be the "community tool of choice" here, so that sort of "support" has value to it. However, so as to list others to try .... WOMBLE has somewhat of a decent following (I still like VideoRedo better) and one I have found that has impoved my issues with camcorder captures as well as a host of other fucntionality not found in VideoRedo is AVS Media.
