New setup - WHS R5000 HD100 - No Video
With the arrival of the HD100 I decided to overhaul my Sage installation. The Dish211 w/ R5000 moved in with the new server running WHS and Ver 4.3 Sage Server for WHS. The HD100 is installed in the LV where the 211 used to be.
Initially the install of the server on WHS went OK. I can access the server from HD100 or PC client and playback imported video, music, and view photos. Then I installed the R5000 software on the WHS and connected the 211 via the special USB connection. The R5000 software pings Sage OK and the Sage Video Source setting seems OK. When I try to watch live video i just get a black picture. When I use the program guide I can sometimes get the EPG and other times it goes into a waiting cycle and never comes back. When the screen goes black or the EPG update goes on forever it is the server that has died as the other extender cannot get to Sage. When I try to restart the Sage Server on WHS it fails to restart and it eventually locks up the whole server which requires a hard book to restart it. When I can get into the EPG I was once able to select a station and it played video. The video pixelated and stuttered but it played!. Then is selected another station and it went round and round waiting... I have a hunch that the issue traces back to the R5000. When I selected a station and got it to play video I thought that it was going to go into the waiting mode. I tried to close the R5000 app and it said that it was recording. A minute or two later there was buffering activity on the R5000 console and video was playing. When I changed that station and it went into waiting mode the R5000 app was unresponsive. Any ideas? I am so close but... Mediahome |

Start with basics...
I once had a motherboard that refused to work correctly as USB2.0, I really couldnt get good speeds out of it. So try to verify your R5000 USB connection. You can start a recording, go to windows desktop and verify the R5000 throughput through the R5000 app.
Also, can you record successfully with the R5000? Your post seemed to indicate that you were interacting with Live-TV. Try a plain recording, then try to view the recording once its complete. DQ

Thanks for the suggestions DQ. I do recall reading a thread about the USB issue. I installed an NEC based USB card and things are working better now. When I watch a station I can see that the R5000 is streaming the video and the file is being saved to the SageTV location. But I get a black screen! Playing with this a bit I have found that when changing a station the first time in it goes black or shows a static frame from the last station. If I stop recording and then start it again it plays the new station fine.
