SageTV HD Extender HDMI problem.

I am having a few problems with the HDMI. My setup is as follows. SageTV HD Extender -> Pioneer receiver 84txsi -> 1130HD. Connection from receiver to tv is HDMI.

I started out using component and optical cable, because I had a cable on order from Monoprice. I had no problems getting DD 5.1 and Stereo. I also had no problem getting 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i. I got my cable yesterday and reconfigured everything. I setup the Extender to output audio over HDMI and video using 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i. I setup the receiver to accept the video. Now I only get stereo sound, and 480i refuses to work. It looks like the tv is trying to lock onto the 480i, but it just can not. I removed the receiver out of the equation, and the same thing happened. I would really like to use native output switching, because I am pretty sure that my TV will do a better job scalling. If anyone can help I would really appreciate. I do not want to go back to component. I feel the picture is better with the HDMI.

valnar I take that you never heard of the Faroudja DCDi technology is primarily used for improving the image quality.

Your previous message left me confused as well. You mentioned the Faroudja chip, but did not connect it to the rest of the sentence, so it was nearly impossible to tell what you were trying to say.

Were you trying to say that the HD extender have a Faroudja chip so it will probably scale better than whatever chip is in the OP's TV? If so, cool!

At just $199 I doubt the HD extender has a Faroudja Video Scaler built in.

I am pretty sure the TV has a great scaler as well. It does a amazing job with 480i. I prefer to use the TV scaler over the receiver. So no one has had an issue similar to mine???? I can not figure out why my equipment will not use the 480i.

I'm not sure about your receiver but on the Denon and Onkyo you need to turn off audio to the tv when using HDMI. This might be because of an HDCP issue, but this thread at avsforum didn't indicate one way or another. So, it might be worth a look.

The faroudja scaller is pretty average as scalers go nowdays. If you have a new TV then the TV may likely have a better scaler. Also, the faroudja only does 480i and not 1080i deinterlacing.

Most receivers use the faroudja and it is pretty meh IMO. However, the Onkyo 875 and 905 feature the HQV Realta scaler that does a much better job. It's on my xmas list
