Universal remote that replaces Hauppauge 45 button

Does anyone use a universal remote that replaces the standard Hauppauge 45 button remote (using the Hauppauge IR receiver) to control the Hauppauge 150 card that came with the original remote?

I have looked long and hard and haven't found conclusive evidence of such a beast. That is, if you plan to keep the Hauppauge IR receiver.

The Logitech and Harmony's seem robust, but I remember talking to a Hauppauge technician who claimed that their remote uses some scheme that isn't used by any other remote.

Is that the sad truth?

thanks

That's not the truth. I've defined my Harmony before to be the 45 button Haupague remote for one of my MVPs. This worked fine. The remote that comes with the 150 is the same. AFAIK.

That's good news. Which Harmony model do you have, and did you have to learn all the buttons one-by-one, or was there a pre-programmed map from Harmony that came from the factory?

I have a Yamaha, Phillips and other universals, but none come with Hauppauge maps.

Both the Harmony 520 and the 880. Just configured it from the Harmony database. The 880 is controlling the HD Extender and the 520 is controlling a MVP.

The Home Theater Master programmable remotes from Universal Remote Control also have the Hauppauge device selections built into their databases.

Gerry

To clear up my confusion . . . are both the HD Extender and MVP connected to Hauppauge IR receivers and Hauppauge cards?

thanks

ps . . . what kind of battery life do the Harmony remotes get?

MVPs were built by and came with Hauppague remotes. The HD Extender uses the same code base. A Hauppague card (PVR 150) would go into a PC. HD and MVP are external devices with a built in IR receiver and remotes.

The 880 sits in a recharging base. The 520 could go a couple of months but I went with rechargable AAAs for it. The current set has been in ther over 2 months with the other set waiting in the wings.

Been using this one for years and it also uses RF. So I can control the tv anywhere in the house in any room.

I believe I paid under $50 for this.

thanks, that clears it up. I imagine the Logitech remotes (550) would also work with the Hauppauge IR?

Should. It's technically the same as the 520. Just supports more devices.
