URC-6131 remote for STX-HD100 and MVP

This is the least expensive remote control I can find which is capable of being JP1 enabled. I picked up 4 of these for MVPs and sent them to UEI (manufacturer) who kindly added a JP1 header when they added the MVP codes.

I am attaching the RM, IR, and button layout pdf to the post. I set it up as VCR/DVD 1997.

Have fun!

Cool

bcjenkins,

how you sending them to UEI (manufacturer) to add jp1 connector?
Could you please explain it, by more details, procedures, contacts?

Thanks in advance.

From the remote control manual.

One For All: (330) 405-8655

Get their support, tell them you need a device code for the MVP or STX-HD100. They may not have the STX-HD100 in their dB yet. They might try to convince you to buy a more expensive unit but just insist you want to mail in the 6131. Put it in a box/envelope and send it in. It was painless and cost me ~$7 bucks for shipping to them. They pay shipping back and that was for 5 remotes in one box.

They do have the discretion to upgrade your remote to a different model as well, but my units came back with a JP1 header and a 1K flash chip.

Cool

Did you send them original remote control or they have MVP in db?

They had it. You need CBL1757 for MVP. They have several others, but this was the one that toggled power correctly.

Yes, although they are somewhat bigger in size too. Go to their website to see current models.

I think I actually have one of these I used to use way back on my client PC with the USB UIRT. Might have to check and see if I can get it upgraded as well (I DO like the feel of this remote, although I don't really have any problems with the Sage remote)...

* EDIT - I've actually got this one: http://www.ofausa.com/remote.php?type=URC%206131 A bit more streamlined, wonder if I can get this one reprogrammed to work??

My only problem would be if they gave me one of the newer 6131's, as I definitely prefer the one I have now... Putting the 6 pin header & soldering on a SMD eeprom shouldn't be too difficult, I have the correct tools for the job :P...

Upgraded mine with a 2k eeprom, added the header, and used a slightly modified version of your file above, and now I'm controlling one of my HD Extenders with my URC-6131B00 remote. Also modded it to work with my 8910, although many of the buttons aren't mapped (no good equivalent keys really, never was really happy with the 8910). Now I just need a couple more 6130's like my old one, and I'll be set .

Just FYI, Midnightbox.com has these today (at least for a bit longer) for 1.00 each, up to 5, 5.00 shipping, so 10 bucks for 5, refurbed condition...

iCraveit.com has 'em for 2.95 for the 6131n, 6.95 for the original 6131, just in case anybody's been looking for them...

OK. I'm confused.
If I buy a 6131, do I need to send it in to support the HD100?
Or, now that it's been done once, I can buy a 6131 and just enter a device code and voila it'll be able to control the HD100?

(All I'm looking to do is find the cheapest remote that can be easily programmed to control both my TV and HD100.)

If you buy a 6131 you will have to send it in. If they do not have the codes for the HD Extender, you'll need them to add codes for something which will add the headers to the remote. Might as well ask for the MVP code.

You'll then need a JP1 cable to update the remote. This is not overly difficult, but it may be easier to buy one of the remotes which can be updated over the phone. Like the 8910.

Mitch what did you end up doing about this? I am disappointed that the HD100 remote can't turn the TV on and off. I am looking for the same thing you are.

I updated the first post with a layout I just began using on the HD100.
